The IBPS Clerk (Customer Service Associate) recruitment is a two-stage online process designed to test a candidate's speed, accuracy, and foundational knowledge. Unlike officer-level exams, there is no interview for this post; your final selection is determined strictly by your performance in the Main examination. This makes the Mains stage the ultimate merit hurdle for securing a position in one of the participating public sector banks.
This is a screening test intended to shortlist candidates for the next phase. It is a race against time where you have 60 minutes to solve 100 questions.

Note: Candidates must qualify in each of the three sections by securing cut-off marks decided by IBPS. Marks obtained in the Preliminary exam are not counted for the final merit list.
The final job offer is based on these scores. You have a total of 160 minutes to manage four distinct sections.
Note: Every wrong answer in both Prelims and Mains costs you 0.25 (1/4th) of the marks assigned to that question. Sectional timing is strictly enforced; you cannot switch between sections until the time for the current section expires.
Unlike other sections, this does not require complex formulas or logic-it requires retention. The focus is heavily on the banking industry and current events from the last 6 months.
This is the core of the section, focusing on how banks operate and the rules they follow.
This area is highly dynamic and carries the most weight in the Mains exam.
Information that remains constant but is frequently asked in banking exams.
To maximize your score in this section, you must focus on the most recurring themes from recent banking exams. Since this section is a Mains-exclusive hurdle, your preparation needs to be deep enough to handle specific dates, names, and figures.
The following table outlines the expected number of questions per topic based on the latest 2025-26 trends for the Main examination.

Edurev Tip: Nearly 70-80% of the questions in this section are derived from events that occurred in the 4 months immediately preceding the exam. Prioritize "Banking Current Affairs" over "Static GK" to ensure a higher return on investment for your study time.
Before starting the "how," it is vital to understand the "why." The IBPS Clerk role is one of the most sought-after banking careers for several key reasons:
The Goal: 40+ Marks. Because there is no GA in the Prelims, many students ignore it until it's too late. Your edge will come from starting now.
Study Commitment: 45-Minute Daily
Part 1: The Daily Brief (15 Minutes)
Part 2: The "Deep Dive" (20 Minutes)
Part 3: The Rapid Quiz (10 Minutes)
Edurev Tip: Focus on RBI Circulars from the last 3 months. In recent years, IBPS has moved away from "headline news" and toward specific "policy news" found in these circulars.

The strategy for a first-time aspirant is vastly different from someone who missed the cut-off by 0.5 marks. Choose the path that matches your current level:
"Success in the IBPS Clerk exam is not just the result of a single day's effort, but the cumulative power of every small, disciplined choice you make-start today, stay consistent, and secure your future in the banking industry."
