15% AIQ seats, all rounds, registration, choice filling, allotment
What is MCC AIQ counselling?
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), functioning under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), conducts the centralised online counselling process for medical and dental admissions in India for specific categories of seats. MCC organises the counselling portal, registration, choice filling, seat allotment and publication of results for candidates who have qualified the relevant national medical entrance examination (for example, NEET candidates for undergraduate admissions).
MCC's role includes administering counselling for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical and dental colleges and for certain institutions where MCC handles 100% of seats (details below). All official registrations and communications are published on the MCC website; candidates must follow that site for latest instructions and deadlines.
Which seats does MCC fill?
| 15% AIQ seats | Government medical and dental colleges (except Jammu & Kashmir unless a college has opted into AIQ) |
| 100% seats | All AIIMS and JIPMER institutions |
| 100% seats | All Deemed Universities (for example, Manipal, DY Patil, SRM and similar deemed institutions) |
| 100% seats | Central universities - Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Delhi University (colleges under DU where applicable), Jamia Millia Islamia |
| 100% seats | ESIC (Employee State Insurance Corporation) medical/dental colleges |
| 100% seats | AFMC Pune (Armed Forces Medical College) |
MCC counselling rounds
- Round 1: The first round of online registration, choice filling and seat allotment.
- Round 2: Allotted seats remaining after Round 1 are handled; candidates who participated in Round 1 may modify preferences as per rules announced.
- Mop-up Round: Conducted for seats left unfilled after Round 2; candidates often need fresh registration for mop-up as per MCC instructions.
- Stray Vacancy Round: A final round to fill any residual vacancies. Typically, no new registrations are allowed; only candidates already eligible under MCC's earlier registration rules can participate.
- Special Stray Vacancy Rounds: Held only if seats remain vacant after the above rounds; formats and eligibility are announced on the MCC portal when applicable.
Step-by-step MCC counselling process
- Registration: Candidates register on the MCC website using their national entrance exam roll number (for example, NEET roll number), application number and personal details. Registration is mandatory for participation in any round.
- Payment of fees: Candidates pay a non-refundable registration fee plus a refundable security deposit as specified by MCC for the respective round. Exact amounts and payment modes are published on the MCC website; always verify current figures on the official portal.
- Choice filling: Candidates select colleges and courses in order of preference. Choice filling must be done carefully: the order determines priority during seat allotment. Candidates may add as many options as allowed and are advised to include a realistic range of preferences.
- Choice locking: Candidates must lock their filled preferences before the specified deadline. If choices are not locked, the system may lock them automatically at the deadline; however, it is the candidate's responsibility to lock and confirm preferences.
- Seat allotment: MCC runs the seat allotment algorithm and publishes results based on candidate rank, category, reservations, available seats and the locked choices. Results are uploaded on the MCC portal and communicated to candidates through the website login.
- Accept/Reject and fee payment: Candidates who are allotted a seat must follow the instructions to accept the seat and complete any required payment (seat acceptance fee/college fee) within the given timeline to retain the allotment. Failure to accept or report within the deadline usually leads to forfeiture of the seat.
- Reporting to allotted college: After accepting the seat, candidates must report to the allotted college within the specified reporting period with original documents and complete the admission formalities to confirm the seat.
Documents commonly required when reporting
- Original mark sheet and pass certificate of the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent)
- Original NEET score card/admit card (or other national entrance exam proof as applicable)
- Identity proof (Aadhaar card, passport, voter ID or other government-issued photo ID)
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) in the prescribed format, if applicable
- PwD (disability) certificate in the prescribed format, if applicable
- Provisional allotment letter issued by MCC and printout of the allotment order
- Recent passport-size photographs and other documents as listed in the MCC information bulletin
Choice-filling tips and practical guidance
- Create a broad list of preferred colleges and courses: include ambitious options, realistic options and safe options to improve chances of an admission you are willing to accept.
- Do not rely only on a few top choices; seats are allotted strictly according to rank and locked preferences.
- Regularly check the MCC website and your registered e-mail/phone for updates, corrigenda and deadline changes.
- Keep scanned copies of all documents ready in the prescribed format and sizes before registration begins.
- Read the MCC information bulletin for the current year carefully - it contains the official rules for registration, fees, document formats, reservation policy and particulars about each round.
AIQ reservation breakdown
| General / UR | Open competition (no reservation) |
| OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) | 27% of AIQ seats |
| SC | 15% of AIQ seats |
| ST | 7.5% of AIQ seats |
| EWS | 10% of AIQ seats |
| PwD (horizontal) | 5% reservation across all categories (applied horizontally) |
The horizontal reservation for PwD means eligible persons with disability compete under their category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) for seats adjusted for the 5% quota. Category certificates must be issued in the format prescribed by the competent authority and verified during document checking.
Important dates
Tentative Round 1 dates: July 21-30, 2026
MCC counselling Round 1 registration is expected to start around 21 July 2026. These dates are tentative; candidates must verify the official schedule and any subsequent changes on the MCC website before taking any action.
Common cautions and final reminders
- Always verify fees, dates and formats on the official MCC portal; amounts and schedules change from year to year.
- Submission of incorrect or false documents can lead to cancellation of allotment and further disciplinary action; submit only correct and verifiable documents.
- If you accept a seat and complete reporting formalities at the allotted college, read the college's admission conditions (including any bond or service obligations) carefully before final acceptance.
- Keep backups of transaction receipts, allotment letters and all uploaded documents for future reference and verification.
