What This Assignment Is About

You will use an AI chatbot to help create content for a professional blog post. This assignment tests your ability to craft effective prompts, refine outputs through iteration, and apply prompt engineering techniques to get useful, tailored results from an AI tool.

Scenario

You work as a marketing coordinator for a mid-sized software company. Your manager has asked you to draft a blog post that explains cloud computing to small business owners who have little technical knowledge. The post should be approachable, practical, and around 500 words. You decide to use an AI chatbot to help you create this content, but you need to guide it properly to get the right tone, depth, and structure.

Tasks

Task 1: Generate Initial Content

Open an AI chatbot of your choice. Create a prompt that asks the AI to write a blog post explaining cloud computing to small business owners. Make sure your prompt includes the audience, the topic, and the approximate length you need.

Run the prompt and read the output the AI generates.

Task 2: Refine the Tone

Now adjust your original prompt to make the tone more conversational and friendly, as if you're talking to a neighbor who runs a local shop. Specify this tone clearly in your new prompt.

Generate the output again and compare it with the result from Task 1. Notice how the language and style have changed.

Task 3: Add Structure and Specific Elements 

Revise your prompt to include specific structural requirements. Ask the AI to organize the blog post with an introduction, three benefits of cloud computing for small businesses, and a conclusion with a call to action.

Generate the new version and observe whether the AI followed your structural instructions. Check if the benefits are clearly separated and relevant to the target audience.

Task 4: Use Role-Based Prompting

Rewrite your prompt using a role-based approach. Tell the AI to act as an experienced business consultant who specializes in helping small businesses adopt new technologies. Keep the same content requirements from Task 3, but add this role instruction.

Compare the output from this task with the one from Task 3. Pay attention to changes in authority, depth of explanation, and persuasiveness.

Task 5: Create a Complete, Polished Blog Post 

Using everything you've learned from the previous tasks, craft a comprehensive prompt that produces a publication-ready blog post. Your prompt should guide the AI to deliver content that matches your company's needs: the right audience, tone, structure, length, and level of technical detail. You may also want the AI to suggest a compelling headline.

Generate the final version and review it as if you were about to send it to your manager for approval.

Task 6: Reflect on Your Process

Write four to five sentences reflecting on how your prompting approach evolved from Task 1 to Task 5. Consider what specific elements you added or changed, which techniques made the biggest difference in output quality, and what you learned about guiding an AI tool to meet professional standards.
