What This Assignment Is About

You will use AI tools to build and improve your resume and LinkedIn profile from scratch. This assignment walks you through the entire process - from gathering your professional information to tailoring your content for a specific job role. You'll work with AI chatbots to generate, refine, and optimise your professional presence online and on paper.

Scenario

You are Priya, a marketing professional with three years of experience in digital marketing and social media management. You've decided to apply for a Senior Digital Marketing Specialist role at a growing e-commerce company. You need to build a strong resume and update your LinkedIn profile to reflect your skills and achievements in a way that stands out to recruiters. You'll use AI tools throughout this process to create, refine, and tailor your professional documents.

Tasks

Task 1: Generate Your Resume Content 

Open an AI chatbot tool such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or any similar assistant you have access to. You will use it to create the work experience section of your resume based on Priya's background described in the scenario.

Your goal is to get the AI to write three professional bullet points for one of Priya's past roles: Social Media Manager at a fashion retail brand (worked there for 18 months). Do not write the prompt yourself yet - first, think about what information the AI needs to know, then ask it to generate the content.

What you must do:

• Provide the AI with the job title, company type, and duration
• Ask it to generate work experience bullet points
• Review the output the AI gives you

Task 2: Refine the Tone and Impact

Now that you have your first draft, you will improve it. Go back to the same AI chatbot and refine the bullet points you received in Task 1.

What you must do:

• Ask the AI to rewrite the same bullet points with a more results-focused and achievement-oriented tone
• Request that it include measurable outcomes where possible
• Compare the original version from Task 1 with this new version

Task 3: Tailor the Resume for the Job Role 

You now have a good set of bullet points, but they need to match the job you're applying for. Open the AI chatbot again and work with the content you've created so far.

What you must do:

• Provide the AI with the target job title: Senior Digital Marketing Specialist at an e-commerce company
• Ask the AI to adjust the resume bullet points so they align with skills relevant to e-commerce marketing
• Observe which words, skills, or responsibilities the AI chose to emphasise and which it removed or changed

Task 4: Build a LinkedIn Profile Summary 

Your resume is taking shape. Now you need a compelling LinkedIn summary that tells your professional story. Return to the AI chatbot.

What you must do:

• Ask the AI to write a LinkedIn "About" section for Priya, based on her three years in digital marketing and her goal to move into e-commerce
• Set a tone that feels authentic and approachable, not overly formal
• Read the result carefully and notice whether it sounds like a real person or too robotic
• If needed, ask the AI to revise it until the tone feels right to you

Task 5: Create a Complete Resume and LinkedIn Headline on Your Own

This is your independent task. Using everything you've practised so far, create a full one-page resume for Priya and write a LinkedIn headline that would catch a recruiter's attention.

Your goal:

• Use the AI chatbot to generate all remaining resume sections: a professional summary, skills, and education
• Ensure every section is tailored to the Senior Digital Marketing Specialist role in e-commerce
• Create a LinkedIn headline (the short text under your name) that clearly communicates Priya's expertise and career focus
• Assemble everything into one cohesive resume document using any word processor or Google Docs

Task 6: Reflect on Your Process 

Think back on how you worked with the AI tool from Task 1 to Task 5. Write 4 to 5 sentences reflecting on your experience.

Consider:

• How did your prompts change as you moved through the tasks?
• What did you learn about how to communicate your goals to the AI?
• Did the AI outputs improve as you gave it more context and clearer instructions?
• What would you do differently next time you use AI to build professional content?
