Article 371 (A to J) - State-wise Mapping

What needs to be memorized: Which state corresponds to which Article 371 clause from A to J (10 states total)

Mnemonic: "Naughty Arun Met Alia, Ate Samosa, Married Asha, Got Kids"

🔗 The Breakdown:

  • Naughty → Nagaland (371A)
  • Arun → Assam (371B)
  • Met → Manipur (371C)
  • Alia → Andhra Pradesh (371D)
  • Ate → Andhra Pradesh (371E)
  • Samosa → Sikkim (371F)
  • Married → Mizoram (371G)
  • Asha → Arunachal Pradesh (371H)
  • Got → Goa (371I)
  • Kids → Karnataka (371J)

Story tip: Naughty Arun met Alia, ate samosa (classic!), but married Asha instead, and got kids with her. Drama, food, and family - very memorable!

Sixth Schedule States (Tribal Areas Administration)

What needs to be memorized: Four states covered under the Sixth Schedule for administration of tribal areas

Mnemonic: "Amma ka Masala Tea, Mast!"

🔗 The Breakdown:

  • Amma → Assam
  • Masala → Meghalaya
  • Tea → Tripura
  • Mast → Mizoram

Memory tip: All four are Northeast states! Think of them enjoying masala chai together. "Mast" (awesome) makes it super catchy and very desi!

Fifth Schedule States (Scheduled Areas Administration)

What needs to be memorized: Ten states with Fifth Schedule areas for tribal administration - Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana

Mnemonic: "Aaj Jo Cricket Hoga, MP Gujarat Match Orr Rajasthan Tak"

(Today's cricket will be - MP, Gujarat match and Rajasthan too)

🔗 The Breakdown:

  • Aaj → Andhra Pradesh
  • Jo → Jharkhand
  • Cricket → Chhattisgarh
  • Hoga → Himachal Pradesh
  • MP → Madhya Pradesh
  • Gujarat → Gujarat
  • Match → Maharashtra
  • Orr (or) → Odisha
  • Rajasthan → Rajasthan
  • Tak → Telangana

Cricket connection: Think of IPL teams! MP (doesn't have team but Madhya Pradesh), Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals - all very familiar. This makes it super easy to remember all 10 states!

Article 371A and 371G - Common Special Features

What needs to be memorized: Nagaland (371A) and Mizoram (371G) both have three main special protections

Mnemonic: "Northeast ko RCL chahiye"

(Northeast needs RCL)

  • RReligious and social practices protected
  • CCustomary law and procedures protected
  • LLand ownership restrictions (only locals can buy)

Quick recall: RCL = Religion, Custom, Land - These three protections apply to both Nagaland and Mizoram under their respective Article 371 provisions.

Article 371F - Sikkim's Special Entry

What needs to be memorized: Sikkim (371F) joined India in 1975 and has special provisions

Mnemonic: "Sikkim ko F for Fresh start mila - Lok Sabha seat aur special tribal status"

🔗 The Breakdown:

  • F for Fresh → Sikkim's fresh entry into India (1975)
  • Lok Sabha → Guaranteed representation in Parliament
  • Tribal → Special provisions for Sikkimese tribals (Bhutia-Lepcha)

Remember: Sikkim was the last state to join India (22nd state), so it needed F for Fresh/Final addition with special protections!

Article 371J - Karnataka (Hyderabad-Karnataka Region)

What needs to be memorized: Article 371J provides for development of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region

Mnemonic: "J for Just Development - Karnataka ka pichda area develop karo"

(J for Just Development - Develop Karnataka's backward area)

🔗 The Breakdown:

  • JJustice/equitable development
  • Karnataka → Specifically Hyderabad-Karnataka region (Kalburgi, Bidar, etc.)
  • Key feature → Reservation in education and jobs for locals from this region

Context: This is the LATEST addition (371J), added in 2013 to ensure the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region gets equitable development!

What needs to be memorized: Five Northeast states have Article 371 provisions

Mnemonic: "NAMA - M" (pronounce as "Naam-a-M")

🔗 The Breakdown:

  • NNagaland (371A)
  • AAssam (371B)
  • MManipur (371C)
  • AArunachal Pradesh (371H)
  • MMizoram (371G)

Pattern recognition: Most Northeast states have special provisions because of their unique tribal cultures, customs, and late integration into India. "NAMA-M" = These 5 states have their naam (name/identity) protected!
