File transfer, File download and Email are services provided by the application layer and there are message and data oriented.

IP address lets you know where the network is located. Whereas MAC address is a unique address for every device. Port address identifies a process or service you want to carry on.

The transport services that are provided to application are reliable data transfer, security and timing. These are very important for proper end to end services.
