SAARC

• It stands for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
• It was established in Dhaka on 8 December 1985.
• Afghanistan joined the organization in 2007.
• Its objectives are:

  • to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region,
  • to provide all individuals with the opportunity to live in dignity and to realize their full potentials,
  • to promote and strengthen collective self-reliance among the countries of South Asia,

  • to strengthen cooperation among themselves in international forums on matters of common interests,
  • to cooperate with international and regional organizations with similar aims and purposes.

Arab League

• It is a loose alliance of nearly two dozen Arab countries that have pledged to cooperate on economic and military affairs, among other matters.

Foreign Policy

• Foreign policy of India regulates India’s relations with other states of the world in promoting its national interests.
• It is determined by a number of factors, viz., geography, history and tradition, social structure, political organisation, economic position, military strength, public opinion and leadership.

Principles of Indian Foreign Policy

• Anti-Colonialism.
  • The foreign policy of India opposes colonialism and imperialism. 
  • India views colonialism and imperialism lead to the exploitation of the weaker nations by the imperialist powers and affects the promotion of international peace.

• OPEC is a 13-country cartel or intergovernmental organization.

New Development Bank (NDB)

• It is a multilateral development bank founded by the BRICS countries.
• It collectively account for 24% of global GDP and 16% of global trade.
• The idea for the NDB was conceived in 2012 during the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.
• It was formed when the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) met for the bloc's summit in Fortaleza, Brazil.
• The bank was viewed as a potential alternative to the World Bank, with the ability to take a fresh approach to development finance.

International Criminal Court is not an agency of the UNO. The ICC was established by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in 1998, and it began sittings on July 1, 2002, after 60 countries had ratified the Rome Statute.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

• The International Court of Justice was created with an aim to settle the disputes between states in accordance with international law and gives advisory opinions on international legal issues.
• It was established in June 1945 
• It is the successor of the Permanent Court of International Justice (PCIJ).
• As of 2021 February, Joan Donoghue is the current President of the International Court of Justice.

UNESCO:

• It stands for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
• It was formed on 16th November 1945.
• Its headquarters are in Paris, France.
• Currently, UNESCO has 193 members and 11 associates members.
  • The US, Israel, and Liechtenstein are members of the UN, but not members UNESCO.
  • Three countries, namely, Palestine, Niue, and the Cook Islands are members of UNESCO, but not of the UN.
• India was the founding member of UNESCO.
