World Forestry Day is celebrated every year on 21 March to remind people of the importance of forests and trees in the world. The United Nations General Assembly had announced to celebrate World Forestry Day in the year 2012. The theme of World Forestry Day 2024 is 'Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World'.  

Leo Varadkar of Indian origin has resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Ireland. He has also stepped down as leader of the ruling Fine Gael party. In 2017, Varadkar became the country's first openly gay Prime Minister and the youngest person to hold the post.

Jindal Steel and Power Chairman Naveen Jindal has taken over as the President of the Indian Steel Association (ISA) with immediate effect. ISA said in a statement that Jindal has replaced Dilip Oommen.     

Renowned poet and litterateur Prabha Verma will be honored with the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2023 by the KK Birla Foundation for her poetic novel 'Raudra Satvikam'. Established in the year 1991, Saraswati Samman is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the country. It is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in an Indian language and published within the last 10 years.

The Election Commission of India has recently appointed Sanjay Mukherjee as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal. Earlier, the Election Commission had issued an order to remove Rajiv Kumar from the post of DGP. Sanjay Mukherjee is a 1989 batch IPS officer.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Dhanuka Agritech Limited have signed an MoU. The objective of this agreement is to utilize the expertise of both the institutions to deliver new technology to the farmers. Under this, Dhanuka Agritech will provide training related to agricultural production to small farmers.

The fourth edition of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Startup Forum was held in New Delhi on 19 March 2024. Representatives of all the member countries of SCO participated in this meeting. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defense organization established in 2001. India became a member of this organization in the year 2017.  

International Day of Happiness is a global event organized by the United Nations every year on 20 March. On July 12, 2012, the General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution declaring March 20 as the International Day of Happiness. The purpose of this day is to encourage people to lead a simple and happy life.

Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been given additional responsibility as the in-charge Governor of Telangana in place of Tamilisai Soundararajan. Earlier, Soundararajan had resigned from his post. He will also hold the additional responsibilities of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) located at Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram has launched a multi-purpose app 'SAKHI' (Space-borne Assistant and Knowledge Hub for Crew Interaction-SAKHI) to assist the Gaganyaan crew. This app will help in monitoring the health of astronauts and maintaining communication with ISRO on Earth. ISRO can launch Gaganyaan human mission in the year 2025.
