The term "Constitution" originates from the Latin word "constitutio," which means 'to establish.' It signifies a set of fundamental principles or established precedents that govern a State or organization. This definition highlights the foundational nature of a Constitution in structuring and guiding the operations of a society or entity.

The Constituent Assembly's main function was to draft and formulate the Constitution of India. Comprised of members from diverse backgrounds, it was tasked with the monumental responsibility of creating the foundational document that would govern the newly independent nation.

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, India's inaugural law minister, served as the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee and is acknowledged as the primary architect of the Indian Constitution. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in shaping the legal framework of independent India.

The Objectives Resolution drafted by Jawaharlal Nehru in December 1946 was significant as it laid out key principles that shaped the spirit of the Indian Constitution. Emphasizing justice, equality, freedom, and safeguards for minorities, this resolution aimed at promoting national unity, democracy, and social progress for the welfare of all citizens.
