An Introduction to the Seaboard RISE: 1.1 - Welcome Video Lecture | Introduction to Seaboard Rise: Advance Music Production

hello everyone and welcome to an
introduction to the Seaboard rise my
name is eran vera i'm an associate
professor at the Berklee College of
Music an Ableton product specialist a
writer producer artist and keyboardist
among other things it's always been hard
to explain what it is that I do and all
of my interests in a single sentence try
as I might and that's something that all
of the Roli products and I have in
common we are multi-dimensional we are
dynamic we are expressive we are
innovative we are simultaneously
creative and technical I also feel this
way about the community at large
especially those of us using their
computers to make music and most likely
I can say this about you as well when I
first got my rise I thought to myself
wow this instrument really gets me and
I'm excited to be here teaching you how
to get the most out of yours throughout
the duration of this course I'm gonna
give you a clear understanding of MIDI
in a historical and technical context as
well as a philosophical look at how
instruments like the Seaboard rise are
innovating and challenging the MIDI
protocols many applications I'll give
you a rundown of the physical
applications of using your eyes and the
digital application of using its
associated virtual instrument equator as
a standalone app and also inside of a
digital audio workstation I'm gonna give
you a very brief crash course in music
synthesis providing you just enough info
to feel confident and tweaking important
parameters and designing your own sounds
lastly I'll show you how to use blend in
order to engage with this course and the
global community of music makers in
order to complete the course you're
going to need a seaboard rise 25 or a
seaboard rise 49 have downloaded and
installed equator and the dashboard
you're going to need some sort of a
digital audio workstation
I suggest logic Ableton or bit whig I'll
be showing you how to load equator as a
third-party plug-in inside bit wig and
point you in the right direction to run
it in any number of other DAWs you're
going to need a computer which has a few
specifics running Mac OS X 10.8 and
above or Windows 7 plus an Intel dual
core i5 2.5 gigahertz processor or
anything more powerful at least four
gigs of RAM but eight is highly
recommended lastly your
gonna need some way to monitor audio
such as a pair of headphones or speakers
to send audio to from your computer I'm
a big proponent of using all the tools
at your discretion such as the speakers
on your computer but I think for the
purpose of this course you should avoid
using them much of the frequency
spectrum isn't properly represented when
monitoring this way and since we're
dealing with how things sound I believe
it's in your best interest to provide
yourself with a better listening
scenario so let me begin by thanking you
