hello guys welcome to my channel this is
the fifty-first you told in this course
and in this tutorial we will see how we
can read contents from a text file in
Perl so 5 handling in Perl is really
simple and as you can see the script
that I have opened here the name of the
script is really underscore file in this
script I have one two three or four
lines of code and that's all you need to
create a connection with a text file and
then pull out all the contents and even
display the contents on screen so the
way you do it is by using the function
open and I have it on line number three
in the script so you type the keyword
open and then within parenthesis you
have to pass two arguments the first is
the name of the connection that you want
to create and that is new and then you
put a comma and the second argument is
the path of the text file so in My
Documents folder I have a text file
called dogs and I actually go to My
Documents folder and show you the
contents of this file so I have lyrics
of the famous Pink Floyd song dogs from
the 1977 album animals and this is a
text file I'll actually go back to my
IDE so this function is going to create
a connection with this text file the
next thing that we have to do is get the
contents from the text file and display
them on the output screen in Perl so I
have used a wide loop and within the
parentheses I have just typed the name
of the connection within angular
brackets so I have the lesson symbol and
the greater than symbol and in between I
have the name of the connection new so
this is going to iterate through all the
contents of the text file and we are
simply going to print whatever text is
fetched using the print statement and
you know since this is text that we are
printing I have it within double quotes
and you
plain text using the special scalar
variable dollar underscore right so if
you remember with subroutines we had a
trade underscore here we have dollar
underscore and then finally you know we
move out of the while loop and our line
but then we have the function closed
which is going to close the connection
new so I'll make sure this file is saved
and when I press f5 we see that in the
output window we have the lyrics from
the song and then after displaying the
text we see the message that if you want
to close this window then we have to
press a key you know the usual stuff so
when I press the spacebar the window
disappears and that's how you read text
from a text file in Perl I hope you guys
