Italian Course Beginner Series lesson 26 The Present Simple Video Lecture

hello everyone and welcome to one of the
most important videos in the whole
entire course today we cover the present
tense or present simple and in Italian
ears in tempo present assembly - now
basically we've seen that in Italian you
have three types of verbs the arrow type
ups edit type verbs and Irie type ups
and I told you already guys go and watch
the introduction to verbs if you don't
know this but basically I told you that
the way you can see whether or not a
verb is an area type verb or an arrow
type verb or an ear a type of is by
looking at its infinitive form here we
have examples of the infinitive form in
Italian the infinitive form in English
is like to live let's have a look at
these examples can diet for matter the
first verb means to sing the second one
means to smoke now you should add all of
these examples in your dictionary and
basically the first one and the second
one they both end in a day so when you
look up a word in the dictionary you
always look for the singular masculine
case and in this case when you're
looking for a verb you always look for
the infinitive form so this is the way
that you will find the verbs in a
dictionary and when you see they end in
a day it means that they are added type
verbs if they end in either either type
verbs edit edit I pubs now this verb
party area means to leave the data means
to see now how can you do to conjugate
verbs because this is how this is what
we're going to learn today how can you
do to conjugate a verb so let's say that
you want to say she sing
okay now she sings in English and we've
said that the verb to sing is cantata
now the first thing that you have to do
is to separate the stem from the ending
the stem is basically the remaining part
of the verb without the ending now let's
get the right tool here we go
so we separate the verb in its
infinitive form and we get the stem and
the ending now the ending is going to
tell us what type of verb this verb
belong to in this case it belongs to the
very first category and the first type
it's a narrow type verb what we do is we
get the stem which is the verb without
its ending and we bring it all over here
and we have our conjugations you can tow
this is I sing to County this is you
sing Louie Cantor this is he sings and
so on so this is how verbs work in
Italian and this is how you conjugate
verbs in Italian in this case we want to
say she sings therefore we will have lay
Cantor lay Cantor this is how you say
she sings in Italian we've also said the
very advanced speakers and indeed all
native speakers tend to omit the subject
because the conjugations in Italian are
all very different from one another it's
not like in English so this is more
complicated at first when you have to
learn them all but then basically you
can afford things that you couldn't
afford in English you can afford to omit
the subject and just stick with the verb
for instance if I say canter this can
either mean he sings or she sings so the
context will also help me out and
basically I will get away with not
saying the subject okay let's try
another example let's imagine that we
want to say in Italian we leave like
we're leaving we leave first thing we we
look up the verb in the dictionary and
we find out that the verb to leave is
part dear party what we do after that is
we separate the stem from the ending we
interrogate the ending we want to find
what type of verb this is it's a needed
type of it's easy to see because it ends
in either ir e therefore we take the
stem and we go all over here part oh
this means I leave in this case well in
our case we want to know how to say we
leave and this is how you say it Part D
armor but the armor so we leave is no
party animal or how any native speakers
would say party ammo party AMA can
either mean we leave or we leave there's
no other possibility
it's just that therefore nobody says no
party ammo unless you want to really be
specific
also notice all the little patterns
because of course you might say well
this is more difficult than English I
have a lot of conjugations to learn true
but you have easy patterns so like in
English the third-person singular is
always
and even across different verb types you
have many conjugations that are pretty
much the same or very similar okay for
instance the first person singular
second person singular first person
plural are exactly the same across all
the conjugations
okay now let's have a look at a last
example sometimes in Italian in real
life situations you will find that
people say okay let's see but instead of
saying let's see people say we see we
see and how do we say we see in Italian
now pause the video if you have to now
you can find this information by
yourself basically you look up the verb
and you find out that Vidya is the verb
you're looking for you separate the stem
from the ending you look at the ending
understand what kind of verb you are
dealing with we are dealing with a
native verb therefore we take the stem
and we bring it all over here they diamo
bid the animal okay so bidi ama means
let's see let's see what happens okay
for instance you could say to me I think
she's going to be famous and I can say
Vidya ma it means well I don't know
let's see so today we've learned the
present simple in Italian for all the
conjugations and of course these are the
personal pronouns the subject personal
