good evening today we are going to learn
about the effects of globalization on
Indian society we need to understand two
things in this first of all what do we
mean by you glycation and secondly what
is its impact on the Indian society this
is being presented by me Amit Kumar
first of all what is globalization
globalization is a phenomenon where
international integration of countries
occur via enhanced foreign investment
and foreign trade but to understand it
in simple terms it means it is a
phenomena which is marked by people
without boundaries and nation without
borders - it is a new term but it has
existed since ancient times for example
during ancient times Indus Valley
Civilization used to trade with Chinese
civilization and Egyptian civilization
and in the prison context which is the
developed countries which has been
trying to pursue the developing
countries so as to enhance their trade
and in this endeavor they are getting
help from the World Bank as well as IMF
so what is the impact of globalization
on the Indian society it has both
positive aspects as well as negative
aspect it is which has both impact on
the Indian society we are going to cover
briefly one by one then packs of
globalization on Indian society first of
all there has been gradual withdrawal of
government from the social sector you
must be aware about the economic reforms
which is brought in 1991 which opened
the Indian economy for the international
investors and the economy was opened for
the private investors which has brought
huge investment in terms of capital and
it has
impacted the employment the social
sector the infrastructure and many other
sectors secondly it has also led to
reforms in the label labor sectors that
is after globalization there has been a
policy of easy hire and fire thus there
is no job security however it has also
led to growth in the job for example in
the IT sector and at present it is the
biotechnology sector which is thought to
be job creator but this creates a wave
of mechanization versus human labor
which is an important topic as seen from
the eye of UPSC because every year or
after every alternate here this question
is being asked how to maintain the
trade-off between mechanization and
human labour talking on the farm that
has led to coming of new tools and
technologies such as has led to
mechanization and thus there has been a
preference of skilled labourers in the
industry however on the other hand India
has huge unskilled and semi-skilled
workforce which are left jobless it has
also led to feminization of labour that
is demand of women has increased in the
formal sector for managerial positions
or in the soft industries however the
problem exists with the informal sector
the discriminatory wages are being paid
to women with a V Men and exploitation
and harassment of women as a common
feature there has been rise in poverty
it was thought that with globalization
when jobs will be created people will be
having enough
money and for what he will be removed
but still even after globalization huge
poverty exists throughout the world and
in India 22% of the population remains
below poverty line it was thought that
trickle-down will occur which will
remove the inequality but trickle down
has occurred to a limited extent and the
gap between the rich and the poor has
increased and there has been an increase
in the rule forwarding then comes the
issue over urbanization and migration
how globalization has affected the
urbanization now urbanization is a
phenomena migration of worker occur or
labor occur from the rural areas to
urban areas in search of better likely
opportunities and it lead to growth of
slums in the urban areas it is thought
that why this migration occur the rural
poverty also migrate to urban areas it
bringing his eases along with them and
the population which is dependent on
farming is declining and again the phase
gap between the urban and the rural
market is increasing there has been
commercialization of indigenous
knowledge India is thought to be a huge
repository of indigenous knowledge where
our traditional knowledge of Ayurveda
yoga and other sources of knowledge is
thought to treat multiple diseases but
with globalization there has been a
issue of intellectual property rights
and countries are claiming our
traditional sources of knowledge which
has led to commercialization of
indigenous knowledge it has also lead to
high competition in the market the
private companies which are working with
profit motive
they are working in an unsustainable
fashion
they are exploiting national resources
and are making unsustainable use of it
creating pollution and are emitting
lethal gases in the environment so it
has relation has brought a concern for
the future generation now what is the
impact of globalization on culture it
has led into deeper cultural penetration
that is it has impacted the eating
habits rearing styles that is clothing
language literature religion has also
brought diseases along with it for it
latest be for example if in consider
latest one being the me car which is
spread by the same mosquito which
spreads dengue is egg bethey and thus
the people are demanding protection of
the local culture it has given rise to
growth of cultural nationalism so it
will make the critical analysis of
impact of globalization on Indian
culture there are certain positives and
there are certain negatives related to
it first of all it has led to the
creation of egalitarian society
emergence a fickle Italian society new
ideas like equality and justice as we
fight the center stage and there has
been emergence of media especially
social media which is willing to discuss
each and every issues of the society but
at the same time there has been
breakdown of the traditional lies the
Western culture has been dominating over
every sphere of our life there has been
rise of materialism and commercialism
sorry consumerism secondly it has led to
women in power
mengdan gender equality because woman
has come to the forefront and they have
taken jobs they came out of their home
it has led to increase in their
self-confidence and gender equality
exist in our society but on the negative
side of it which has led to
commodification of woman and woman are
seen more like a commodity that is why
the number of crime against women has
increased thirdly farmers have gained
from the new tools and technologies
which has come because of globalization
but on the negative side of it is the
rich farmers which have failed however
the poor farmers have lost because they
cannot afford the input price the tools
in the technologies so it has led to
move to a distinction between the haves
and the have-nots on the positive side
of it it has led to enhance which is for
labor for the skilled laborers but on
the negative side of it the unskilled
laborers are still marginalized thank
