so in this tutorial I'm just gonna give
you guys some little tips on sketching
in kind of ink
I think sketching is Paris one of the
most important things you could you know
get in the habit of doing and it should
be something fun right and the good the
good thing is about pen is that you know
it has certain characteristics that lend
itself good to sketching for one you
know when you make a mark its permanent
all right
you can't erase it so it you have to use
that to your advantage when I see with a
lot of people who who are just learning
a draw is that they tend to want to get
everything right all right
they tend to want to get things perfect
and if it's not then it's almost as if
they want to destroy that drawing or not
continue at all and that's the worst
attitude to have when you're drawing you
have to be willing to be experimented to
you have to be willing to make mistakes
you have to be willing to let the medium
guide you sometimes you have to
relinquish some amount of control
alright so some I'll just share with you
some things that I do when I'm sketching
that's pretty useful and what I'm doing
right now is one of those things like I
have no idea if you notice there's no
pencil drawings here so I'm just going
you know it's almost like doodling okay
but a little bit more controlled or
driven well the thing is with panic is
that the fact that is uh non erasable it
forces you to just continue what you're
doing so for example there are times
when I draw fast
there are times a knowledge are all slow
and there are times when I do both right
so for example if I'm like doing a
sketch of someone like I see a picture
for example and I want to capture that
motion it's like you know someone is
like Sam drawing someone dancing or
something and I notice you know I just I
just kind of like the like the way the
motion is and I just want to capture
that now right here I'm not focusing too
much on you know
if things are right or things are wrong
it's just about capturing the motion and
then there may be a time where I may see
a little illustration of something and
I'm like um well I like the way that
looks and I may want to zoom in on
something and really take my time to get
things right not like for example I may
see like a little uh little ad book
right and I feel like just sketching at
it you know may take my time and you
know but the point is I'm always forcing
myself to just go with the pencil marks
now when your sketchbook is somewhere
where you draw you write you practice
you experiment you try new stuff you
know this is where our tribe like for
example different lines or different
strokes and see how they look you know
try to make long strokes short strokes
this is where you just you just play
around with the pen all right and I
believe every single person who's you
know not necessarily serious about
drawing but just wants to get better at
it she'll always have a sketchbook that
they practice in and one of the main
things that I think is very important to
practice and drawing is to draw basic
shapes and I've realized that with a lot
of people like people want to draw you
know really advanced stuff and they
can't draw simple basic shapes basic
shapes from different perspectives you
want to be able to draw basic shapes
from so many different positions in so
many different ways that it becomes
almost like like second nature to you so
that means when you're drawing something
and you're simplifying it to a basic
shape you don't have to focus so much on
how that basic shape will look because
you have done it so many times you know
so it will that will be something that
will come natural to you and that's
something I think is very important for
everyone to practice so right now for
example I'm just drawing like cubes and
you know Deford block shapes in
different forms whatever form I think or
position I think I can come up with I'm
just gonna sketch it out and it's
important to practice that over and over
again because what this does is it
the ability to practice controlling
proportions in different positions so
you're thinking especially when you draw
transparent in this sense it's almost
something that's always taught to be
done you're trying to draw as if you can
see through the object and then you can
just use your imagination and turning
into something else like for example I'm
going to you know make this into a box
and it gives you the the practice of
turning you know basic shapes into real
objects which is what you do most of the
signs when you're drawing okay you're
turning a real thing you're simplifying
some you're simplifying things you've
seen two basic forms and then you're
retransform in those basic forms again
back into something realistic
I'm just you know just letting my
imagination just go crazy here but this
is very important for you know you're
drawing perhaps one of the most
important things you could ever practice
doing is to draw basic shapes from as
many perspectives as possible just to
allow yourself to really get it right
and then you can just manipulate them so
you can practice using basic shapes and
you can you should also practice drawing
really fast or what you know they
generally referred to as like just
gesture drawing so for example you may
time yourself you may not necessarily
have the time yourself but just to give
you some idea of that you're not
comfortable to draw at your own pace and
the thing is you should be comfortable
with the drawing coming out in a way
that doesn't look perfect all right
especially that's nothing better to do
it with then with people draw people
doing all kinds of different activities
you know whether it's you know moving
dancing whatever it is it's good
practice to train yourself the draw
really quickly because it forces you to
to let go and just let your mind guide
you in ways that you're you're generally
not not used to you know so and this is
something I do all the time like I would
um just make sketches with people and
different positions like you could be
watching a video and just just pause it
you know just a fun and just do like
five minutes of this stuff limit
yourself so like you know 30 seconds per
sketch or like a you know a minute or so
or whatever it is and just just make as
many sketches as you can come up with
and this is how a typical page in my
sketchbook would look just you know
having a random things
you know and it could be something like
that you know those sketches like that
and next moment I could just do
something like a cartoon you know show a
little little Daffy Duck or a Donald
Duck you know especially do a little
stuff like this every now and again just
don't you know force yourself to make
have any limits on what you depict or
drawing your sketchbook you know just
have let it be a place where you just
experiment and just play around
yeah on this this is typical for for
something I'll do in my sketchbook just
draw whatever it comes to mind you know
a little stuffs like that I could see an
animal and and just sketch it and you
may like the way it looks and you know
sometimes I'll do the same thing over
and over again and try out different you
know strokes or something like that like
for example I may draw the the head of
this um the Swan and I may try to try
out different lines line and see the
different effects that I get this one I
may try something like this you know
don't be afraid to to make mistakes
because believe me a lot of times like
it's the system mistakes that well what
you think is a mistake that sometimes
your best ideas come from or you may
just do something that just you know
amazes you and you just discover
something new so you know just draw
whatever comes to mind sometimes I'll
practice my um compositions I may have a
drawing in mind that I want to do and I
may just you know do several thumbnail
sketches of what I think that you know I
want that to look like
so you know I could be doing a sketch of
like you know kind of a still life with
fruits or something so I made sketch out
like okay what if I put the bowl right
here and I put something here and I'll
have little things over here now I have
some items here then I may say okay what
if I put it on this side you know and
what if I put the the other object here
if I put things in the background you
know that's how designers come up with
different compositions you may even crop
it don't do something like that
you know there's something like that and
you have have them overlap you may have
something these little things you know
you just experiment and play around with
your um with your drawing but that's
what you're supposed to be doing in your
sketchbook
you know just finding out different ways
to do things and then you may just you
know slow down and just want to do a
study you may want to do an eye or
something
you know you may want to practice
drawing ahead for example and ask the
thing with ink you know all the lines
are there so you're pretty much forced
to see all the lines that you know comes
in to coming up with that idea you just
experiment you know you just come up
with different things but your sketch
your sketch book should be somewhere
where you just practice all the
different ideas and you know try out new
stuff you may even think of adding color
in there you know and that's the cool
thing about pen and ink you can combine
it with color you can combine it with
paint you can even sketch with even
different colors sometimes I do that you
know you may see something that you want
to practice and you just do it
it's very very common for me to combine
my ink with you know markers or colored
markers and stuff like that you know it
just adds some you know that's what your
sketchbook is supposed to look like when
you're sketching an ink you know ink
goes with just about anything and that's
the whole idea
I'm gonna do one on sketching with while
sketching the figure in ink as well but
this is just you know when you're
practicing your pen and ink and you're
just trying to you know explore
different ideas come up with different
things this is essentially you know what
you do you just try to be as open as
possible don't restrict yourself you
know just and use all the space you know
I'm not thinking too much about making
things neat and all perfect I'm just
just playing around just having an open
mind and you just go with it
but you know whenever you're using ink I
just advise everyone just you know just
to have fun and don't think too much
about everything being perfect or right
in place or you know correct and all
that stuff just just go with it and
invent just create things as you as you
draw you know just let yourself just be
free to just have fun with the medium
there's no right or wrong just have fun
