Fast gladiolus painting using watercolor markers Video Lecture - Master

hi there Linda here the frugal crafter
I'm trying something new today just kind
of doing a little painting on the fly
cuz it's not all that new but what I'm
gonna try today is to sketch something
up with watercolor markers on my
watercolor card here and then add water
to it and paint it and hopefully it will
come out beautiful because I had a
viewer request me to paint a pink
gladiola and I know a lot of you have
these watercolor markers any water-based
markers are fine your Crayola is your
Tim Holtz distress your tombow your
stamping up whatever you have that's
water-based and so we're gonna give it a
try you can go ahead and sketch on
pencil first if you want I'm not going
to bother with that because I know
whatever I do here will turn into paint
so I'm gonna do is and I apologize I'm
doing this upside down for you right set
up for me um but this is just for the
sketch part once I get to the painting I
will um I'll flip it around for you so
what I'm doing is the stalk of the
gladiola it's gonna go off my my paper
here um I'm gonna sketch on some flowers
some buds some buds in our little
gladiola stock there we're going to draw
some there's some little buds here
gladiolus can almost look kind of like
lilies and you'd they're like kind of
trumpet shaped flower so I'm just kind
of drawing that around and I think you
know be be sketching with it if you're
not exactly how sure how something goes
just kind of fake it fake it till you
make it when you're painting really
because um your brain will fill in the
rest you've got these spiky stalks with
buds on them that your brain already
says aw it's a gladiola um so you don't
even need to put that much detail in and
your brain can tell you exactly what it
is because we've got flowers kind of
coming off a long spiky stem so a brain
knows what it's supposed to be all right
I'm gonna throw in some yellow here I
test out my markers before I begin I did
do that much because sometimes I go into
my markers do not cooperate they're very
um
kind of dry so I want to make sure that
my markers are gonna work really well
for me so this probably looks like a hot
mess right now but trust me it'll look
great it'll look great you know what or
I won't post the video so if the video
is posted then Jesus art came out
looking all right wrong and I'm going to
throw in some darker color here so I can
do some blending later maybe just add a
little bit in between stocks here and
yeah I think we're good for some
painting you can use a water brush I'm
just gonna use a wet paint brush here
nothing fancy and what I'm doing is I'm
wetting the edges of the petals and kind
of dragging that color inward I really
thought that would release the color a
little bit better than it is but that's
not bad it's fun you know what I said
I'd turn it around we turn it around for
you
that'll make it a null zoom in even
that's kind of gal I am I'll zoom in and
I'll turn it around that's a little bit
better for you
the yellow tends to lift up really well
but I do I always noticed that red
marker doesn't seem to blend as well as
other colors you know what I can do
actually I can scribble some of this
onto my craft mat and use it like a
paint palette I can get a little bit
more gradual color in there for you boy
we'll see how this comes out may just
end up looking like a mess um I don't be
able to salvage it ha ha oh boy but you
know you never note a try that's what I
always say that's why I said yesterday
when I got into the bounce house with my
four-year-old nephew and ended up with a
sore back all day oh my gosh too old for
this should not do somersaults without
stretching it about sews at my age not a
good scene actually now it's not gonna
hang in a museum or anything but I don't
think it's too terrible let's see how
the green I think that greens are gonna
blend out a little bit but oh yeah the
Greens blend out really well probably
should have chose a color for the
flowers that was a little bit easier to
blend now just for funsies let's see how
the markers work
the damp paper they don't work that
great actually so I think now let's go
around the outside a little bit and see
if I can add a little bit more interest
if oh yeah if I work a little quicker
after I put the marker down I can blend
it a little bit better that's good to
know so we're learning together here
folks that's more petals in there and
blend immediately that looks so much
better doesn't it look at my monitor and
I think it looks alright you know not
great piece of ah not a great pisa app
but you know what it's okay it'll do I
might selection to the gladiola one over
again this may not be exactly what my
viewer was open for um oh and sometimes
just gotta kind of improv here and I
think that it would be nice to kind of
have another stock of buds going up here
because um I think that really is
something unique about gladiolas the
whole stock enos how they all kind of
spring forth from a from one stock so I
want to make sure I really I really add
that maybe a couple buds over here and
maybe I'm overdoing it the chance of
that is always a good chance I find this
marker here this uh PL paint distress
marker dries out like I'll be using
it'll be fine and then all of a sudden
it's dry and I don't know why I don't
know exactly what's up for that marker
because I always store them on their
sides I don't haven't run into that
problem and then the other brands just
that more marker and it seems to be that
color more than any of the other ones
and I'm not sure exactly why but if
anybody know it was please do tell got
those at Michaels last year when I was
in West Springfield in town for the
stamp show there and it's he only am the
only marker that I've had that that
happened to and I've had like some of
these tombos knows the whispers those
are cheapos and they were pretty good
some of the tombos i've had I got on a
yard sale for 10 cents piece years ago
and they still worked great so you never
can tell
so there we go I you know what let's see
what you all we gotta have a little some
stamens in there and I don't have a
brand I'm shouldn't do them in green cuz
why not let's see what happens if I go
on my fine tip end of this marker that
was our kid so huh so well yeah oh that
kind of works pretty well because I'm
kind of scribing the paper a little bit
I don't think the markers usually will
let go of their ink too well on damp
paper but that's all right with here
because it's just gonna scribe in and
give me a very natural-looking stamen
and I think with that dries out it's
going to be fine and this is one that
was giving me trouble anyway so even if
it's not I'm not really out that much to
this marker it's a temperamental to say
the least okay there you have it there
is a quick watercolor card of gladiolas
out by request seven minutes well then
you know I only wasted seven minutes of
your time if you didn't like it and if
you did like it hey it's a card you can
make in seven minutes
I'm gonna just color the deckled edge
here of this envelope just a little
match when I go to mail my card and I
think it's good enough to mail there we
go let that blend out a little bit and
there we go we've got a card we've got
an envelope in less than eight minutes I
