Loose Poppies watercolor quickie Video Lecture | Master the Art of Watercolour Painting (English) - Art & Craft

hi there Lindsay here in the frugal
crafter today I have a quick and loose
little poppy watercolor painting for you
I was testing out my camera set up in my
office upstairs as you know my basement
studio is cold this time of year so I
thought I am gonna just try this out
with my webcam directly recording into
my computer just to see how it worked
out and this is the camera I use for
live shows so I will say I'm not sure I
think I like my other camera better but
out what I'm starting off with here is
just a sketch with a regular pencil on a
watercolor greeting card and I'll put a
link in the video description so you can
find the Poppy photo I use from paint my
photo
I'm simply wetting the background I'm
not wetting over the flowers just over
the stems in the background and then I'm
using some olive green paint to kind of
just go around the flowers and I'm just
letting it flow I also have some kind of
like turquoise sea blue paint here and
the paint's I'm using you'll probably
notice they're a little different than
what I normally use
they are the Gansey Tambi watercolors
that have been very popular with card
makers as of late I just wanted to try
something different different color
palettes sometimes it's fun to mix
things up and since I'm paint in a new
space using a new camera use the
different colors it's you know just kind
of fun you know rewire all the snaps is
in your brain and all that stuff okay
now I am moving on to the middle of my
flower and I'm using this kind of like
periwinkle blue color that was in the
kit again not a color I typically would
use but kind of fun to try out and I am
then adding some of this of a kind of
scarlet color but it's actually more of
a magenta it looks really dark in the
palette but it's much Pinker on the
paper now I don't have a mixing space on
my palette you can see I showed you they
look kind of little liner thing that
came with it but I found it's just a
little easier to mix right on my craft
mat which is actually it looks like the
Ranger craft mat but it's just like an
oven liner I picked up at a Ltd
commodities online you got a pack a 2
for under 8 bucks and the other one I
guess while putting the oven since I've
never actually clean in my oven that
probably would be a very good thing for
me to do so let the background dry let
everything dry to this point and decided
to go back in with some more defining
colors and I'm using some of the blue
some of the piece
I am kind of trying a couple different
techniques sometimes I'll just put the
paint in and then use a damp brush to
spread it sometimes all with the petal
and just kind of let the paint flow it's
just two different ways to get a very
similar effect you can try both ways and
see which way you like best and honestly
I'll use both techniques on one picture
because I think just kind of having that
a little bit of difference between
petals it just helps make your picking a
little more interesting I think so don't
be afraid to mix and match techniques
during a painting your you need to know
your full vocabulary as a painter to
kind of get the depth of what you're
trying to achieve I guess does that make
any sense I don't know I feel like I'm
talking 9 2 miles a minute as usual and
I'm just going in with you know more
deeper colors and defining them a little
bit more I thought this was such a sweet
little picture I thought it'd be really
fun to kind of break my way into
painting in my new studio for the winter
anyway and just something kind of fun to
share and testing out the new camera
equipment which is actually my live show
equipment not really that new but but
new in this section of my office I
actually took that I had a treadmill
here where my desk is right now and I
moved that downstairs actually my
husband son and I moved that downstairs
and to kind of make like an exercise
room down there because it's perfect if
it's a little cooler and this is where
my treadmill used to be so it's a it's
gonna sounds a little different it
sounds a little echoey here and but it's
a much brighter lighter space and most
importantly warmer space so we're just
kind of putting in some finishing
touches I am using a little bits of
yellow on some of the petals where I
want it to be brighter I'm using my
credit card scraper to put those little
papery crepe be kind of lines just kind
of crinkles that the petals have it just
nothing works better than that little
credit card scraper and I am a flicking
ounce of trickles paint I wanted to have
a little more turquoise and then I'm
adding that also in the shadow area of
my stems and scraping out the little
furs that puppies stammers how that kind
of fuzziness on the edge and that's what
I was trying to get right there and that
pretty much does it a little more
the center and that's it I hope you
