okay hey Jason with our PC Electronics
is the lesson 11 of the Eagle tutorial
this is basically going to be the last
lesson on designing and creating and and
finishing our experimental board here as
I stayed in in the last lesson lesson 12
is going to be a kind of a follow-up not
really a lesson more of a
question-and-answer kind of session I'm
going to use that to answer a lot of the
questions that have been getting either
privately or on the in the public
comments and I figured it would be a lot
easier I've been trying to answer the
the questions in text sometimes it's
just you know picture paints a thousand
words and it'll probably be easier for
me to just take maybe maybe oh I don't
know half a dozen or so the best
questions or most at most commonly asked
questions and I'll try to give a good
visual explanation of how to do or how
they answer those questions um okay
we've got where we left off on lesson 10
with our silkscreen we we delete a few
things and we move some stuff around the
one thing we didn't do and I'll show you
how to do that real quick here is we'll
add some text
we'll add something in addition to what
the script created and by the easiest
way to do that is right over here on the
the left side of our tools there's a
capital T that's our text tool we're
going to click on that and we'll just
call this the LED widget and we'll just
say it's version 1.0 and we click OK now
what you notice is you may or may not
get this all depends on
what mode you're in last now you can see
that this is this is a showing like it's
going to be part of the bottom layer and
that's why it's inverted in blue well
all we have to do is go to our layer
selection and we'll collect teeth we'll
select T silk for top silk and the size
is a little bit big so we'll change our
signs let's say 50 and ratio is about
right ratio really is what controls the
thickness of the of the text if I went
up to say a 20% well it didn't change so
maybe I lied to you but 8% seems to be
the best for me anyways and font always
select vector when you're proportional
sometimes the text will actually show up
a little bit bigger when the board is
actually produced now I honestly don't
understand why this happens I've just
found that when I select vector I always
get exactly what I see so I select
vector so we'll go ahead and we'll just
click once and put that text down and as
you can see I can click again so and
then reuse this same text so we'll do
that again we'll just stick one in each
corner like that and we'll click Save
okay so at this point we've got our
routing done our copper port is complete
on both sides of the board we have our
silk-screening we've adjusted our
silkscreen we've added any additional
text that we want on the board so now
all there is is to really generate our
Gerber files so we can actually submit
these to a board house and have our
boards actually produced well the first
thing we want to do is we want to go to
our grid display our grid selection
display and you're going to notice that
well all along we've had top bottom
layer pads vias dimension all these all
these layers have been lit up the entire
time that we've working on this as well
as drills holes measurements document
and of course our new silk layers that
we had
there are some layers that aren't turned
on by default until you do it and some
of them are the top cream bottom cream
top stop bottom stop these are all
layers that are used to create the
Gerber files and what these are going to
do is these are going to tell the board
house where the where the silkscreen
I'm sorry not the silkscreen where the
solder mask is supposed to be and where
it's not supposed to be for example so
that way for example your pads are not
covered up they're actually exposed so
you can solder to them also these some
of these settings also indicate the
spacing between that solder that solder
mask and the pads and basically they're
mostly used internally for the board
house but those are some crucial things
that we need to include when we're
running our cam file in the north for
those to be included they must all be
turned on so we're going to go ahead and
turn it on what I find in general is the
easiest thing to do is go ahead and just
turn on all your layers it doesn't hurt
to do this maybe in some special cases
where you need to admit something you
won't want to argon but in the general
general Gerber production or for
producing your general Gerber files turn
it all on just to be safe so now we
turned on let me hit OK and you're going
to notice that some some more markings
have shown up on the board and these are
essentially just the different layers we
just turned on okay now if you remember
in a lesson the last lesson lesson 10 I
gave you a link for going to the website
to to get the cam file and that
silkscreen and here's the link again
just in case you didn't get it in the
last lesson here's the link and you can
go to our web page and get these scripts
one of them was the cam file that cam
files what's going to actually generate
our Gerber so if we go to the top menu
here we'll see a what looks like almost
like a two little film squares it's a
green and black click on that and it's
going to bring up our cam processor
and if you've copied that cam file that
I posted for download and pleated in
your cam folder when you do open and
then select job it should show up and
there it is sfe special that's sparkfun
electronics give them credit for the for
the file double-click on that and when
you double click on that scan take a
second it'll load up and all these
different layers all these different
scripts have loaded now each one of
these tabs is producing a specific file
that's a Gerber file right here where
you see sis file this is the extension
that particular that particular file
file will have so there's the component
side the solder side silkscreen and so
on including all the way down at the end
here we've got the drill file the DRD
drill file and these are all a crucial
files needed to produce a board so now
that I've got this job opened up all we
have to do is click process job and you
can see that's running through the steps
and there it's done now if you had a
more complex bigger board that would
take longer ours isn't too complex it's
fairly small so it runs pretty quickly
so now that we've processed it and can
close that and we can verify that it's
ran by opening by going back to the
control panel and you can see now under
our lesson folder we have all those
different Gerber files with those
different extensions that are now all
showing up as well as if I go into just
the plain old folder there's all those
files that are now showing up as well so
we verified that our Gerber files have
been created or generated and and now
they're ready to be sent off to a board
house so okay we're going to I'm going
to stop the lesson here and at this
point pretty much we're done and you
need to have everything that you need to
to start building you're making your own
boards and creating your own Gerber
files and start submitting them for your
own projects so wish you guys luck if
