oh that's Perry Fox and we are going to
do blocks number two primarily today
we're going to talk about using the
modify functions with blocks so I am
going to just fire it up
Libra CAD I'll create a new layer this
layer I'm gonna call hex you just see
why I'll make it blue I like blue and
we'll make it about that wide and when I
do this create this first block I will
not do the insert function draw the
insert lines because this is junk that
we're creating right now anyhow so I
want to create a line and then I chose
polygons with two corners and I'm going
to create a hex so we created a hex
hexagon and now that I've created the
hexagon I'm going to turn that into a
block so we will go back to the main
menu great block I'll select it off and
I don't really care where the insert
point is the reference point and call
the block hex sorry for not always
okay now I've created the hexagon and I
have created this block okay first thing
I want to show you since we have this
block right here if I delete it on the
page so we use the delete function will
delete the extra hexagon that we already
had since I still have it as a block it
still exists there so I can repost that
hexagon where
I want to okay so now we have our
hexagon let's do some of the modify
functions and first thing I'm going to
do is create a couple two-point lines
kind of randomly and so we got a couple
lines here and let's do
that's great one more
okay now we're going to do the modify
functions so we go to modify and we're
gonna do the first ones we're gonna do a
trim so we'll trim this thing see I
click DF let's go back
it says limiting entity and I'm gonna
click click on the block right here and
now that was on that one line now if we
trim this we would expect us to trim
where it did but this one here it turned
to the whole block and it knows which
line of the block to trim to so that's
kind of nice
same thing this one will extend to that
line okay if I now select the limiting
entity and I select the far side of the
block it will extend all the way to that
far side which again is kind of nice to
know and it's important just like it was
on a circle to know which part you're
clicking onto when you're you're doing
your extend okay any of these functions
that would actually modify the base
block will not work so we can't use
things like bevel around or stretch
probably will not work because that
would change the actual block but we can
use a lot of the other functions on a
block so let's first delete those lines
that I've created get them out of the
way
so let's do a rotate and when we rotate
we'll select the block and we can select
it anywhere we don't have to do a window
select and we'll rotate it about this
point right here okay 15 degrees and
we'll delete the original
and you see it rotated it so we can do
rotate we can also do a mirror so we
select a block will draw some mirror
line will keep the original and this
thing here if we try to select it still
block so because we even though we
rotate or mirrored it we still it's
still a block it's not a bunch of
individual entities unselect that now
I'm going to show you a very useful
function you notice what I selected that
is selected the whole block this thing
called explode what that does it
explodes a block into a separate entity
so now now if I try to select something
on that I do a delete and I select to
delete you see it only deletes the one
line so you can always take a block and
and bust it up into its individual
components and we're gonna deal a little
bit more with that here in just a minute
so let's unselect that let's go ahead
and delete the whole thing over there
okay I think we've done pretty much all
of the functions that we can deal with
let's do one copy will copy our block
and it's still going to remain a block
when we copy it keep original
okay now if I explode that block and
it's back to its original entities I can
do things like the bevel function and
around should be able to why am I not
able to select those let's go back make
sure I'm doing exactly what I'm wanting
to do I want to do a round radius 0.5
that's pretty big so let's go to 0.25
since I didn't scale anything and
that's what happens when you don't
decide to scale anything make sure that
I've exploded it I have see what the
length of that line is
this is where you even when you create
something like what I'm doing right now
you need to know what the size is that
you're creating it's 28 ok well then
that's pretty big so let's go back now
what do bevel around will make the
radius 200 or 2010 10 should be a good
number first and a second handy and that
works I just had that my scaling right
so you see you can't go back and bevel
one round and do all those functions if
you want to but first you have to
explode it okay let's delete it and then
I'm going to show you one more thing
that's gonna make a mess you up delete
the one that we've exploded okay I've
created a hacks so now let's go ahead
and we're going to do a copy we'll copy
one hex
three-position keep original
and now I'm just gonna paste another
hacks will paste it over here
okay I'm gonna do a scale function
and we'll scale this one at to two times
sighs okay and I'm going to scale this
this one over here scale a scale at
point five okay and now I'm gonna modify
this one over here just a little bit I'm
gonna add something on it just to dress
it up so we'll create a circle and that
will create another circle and it's a
spongebob X pants okay and then over
here we'll modify this one too but we'll
do it with some lines
notice even though it's a block I still
have endpoints that I can reference to
which is really nice
okay now I'm gonna create two new blocks
and I'll show you why this is a problem
so we're going to create a block and
we're gonna call this block small hex
and we will call will create this other
block
reference point
call this big hex okay now the
interesting thing is that since I have
hex and all of these well let me show
you what happens when I turn off big X
so I turn off big hex it turns off
everything you'd expect it to turn off
small hex it does everything you expect
here but when I turn off hex it not only
turns off the hexagon it turns off the
hexagon that was this in the other box
so we have blocks with blocks inside
them that can be handy but it can also
be bad let's turn this back on well stay
in hex we'll modify it and we'll modify
it by putting a big circle in the middle
of it okay we've modified that one and
you see us in all of them so our block
within the block can end up messing you
up so I would recommend most of time
when you're taking a block and you're
going to do something with it to create
another block first thing you do is has
exploded then you can go ahead and
create your other block and all of the
entities would be just the base entities
at that point so this is one more little
not really a gotcha and I caught it but
it could be a gotcha depends on what
you're expecting things to do so I think
I've pretty much ended this one yeah
we're about 12 minutes or so
so the next one's going to be a little
