to add a hotspot to your video click the
call-outs tab then click the add
call-out button
from here there are two ways to create a
hot spot you can turn this call-out into
a hot spot by checking this box or if
you'd like to add a hot spot to an image
on your canvas click add call-out
click here for more options select
transparent hotspot then adjust it
accordingly you can make the entire
image a hotspot
or just a certain area
now let's talk about hotspot properties
to adjust how long it takes for the
hotspot to fade in or out click and drag
these sliders
or enter it manually
next click the hotspot properties button
here you can choose whether or not you
want the video to pause at the end of
the call-out as well as what happens
when the hotspot is clicked if click to
continue is selected the video will
pause at the end of the call out and
stay paused until the user clicks the
hotspot
if go to frame at time is selected the
video will jump to the time you specify
here
likewise go to marker will jump to the
marker you specify using this drop-down
menu
either of these options are useful if
your video uses branching or if you want
to create a custom table of contents

contents click here if jump to URL is
selected clicking the hotspot will open
whatever webpage you've specified here
at Exmouth we use the jumped URL option
fairly often it's an easy way for us to
link to feedback surveys and other
tutorials
take this image here for example
as you can see I've got a transplant hot
spot over the area someone would click
on
if we check out the properties you'll
see that I've selected jump to URL and
included a link to a survey
I've also checked this box so that the
page will open in a new browser window
or tab
now let's see how that behaves in a
browser I'll just click here and there's
the survey before we wrap up I'd like to
point out that hotspots only work when
viewed in TechSmith smart player this
means that while they will work while
hosted on screencast.com or embedded on
personal web sites they will not work on
sites like YouTube since it doesn't use
the smart player well that's all for now
