Tony and I were lucky enough to meet
famous National Geographic photographer
IRA block and he offered to take us to
his hometown New York City to go
shooting I want to see what you have in
your bag
I've got the 70 to 200 G master the 16
to 35 sony f4 and then in this little
one is this little baby tripod I started
carrying this maybe a couple of years
back because there have been too many
situations where I didn't have a tripod
you get to stick this on a railing or
you know push it against a wall
well in case the thing gets lost like
you think there's a chance of snow in
return I was a journalist starting and
the newspaper days with film the thing
then was to have two cameras here -
Nikon cameras here
and another one on your shoulder or baby
you know how many cameras that I notice
can I read three because if there were
no zoom lenses only different ones got
28 105 and maybe a 50 or something what
do you have now this is the 24/7 AG mast
which I basically
and use 90% of the time do you feel like
you see differently because you take
pictures I do see differently it because
I take pictures as I'm always looking
the one place where I don't look so much
is here in New York X itself so for me
my night to you know to work in New York
I actually have to flip a switch in my
brain do you want to go out and shoot
let's see if we can find an image or two

sometimes I'll do how'd that work out
for you yes you know I put her in the
corner ooh I like that diagonal lines
are critical in all my photos yeah you
like that because diagonal lines really
wake you up when you're looking at
individual this this way you're the big
time the other thing is I'd look for
layers something in the foreground and
something in the background add some
depth yeah there we go now we got the
selfie when I've been shooting camels of
all things you get a string of camels
you want all the camels to you know so
it is silhouette out of the background
perfectly yeah so your camel here camel
here but camels tend to want to be with
each other so they end up overlapping
and ones guys head is you know coming
out of a hump and the you don't get that
definition right you want that clean
look to it you see this way too often
where people pick up you know their
camera look at something zoom their lens
and then walk on the problem with
zooming is it doesn't force you to get
into your subject so zoom with your feet
too many people you know it's like did
Matt walk on if you actually walk into
your subject you suddenly are walking
around it maybe it looks better from the
other side you know get down low get up
you can't be lazy as a photographer
that's for sure oh the other big thing
people don't do is they never use a fast
enough shutter speed if you're shooting
people you need to be at a 250th or a
500 and a lot of people don't want to up
there is oh yeah they're afraid of they
noise
yeah and it's crazy because once your
pictures blurred you got to throw it out
and it's worse than noise noise at least
look organic right
yeah knows the noise correction in
Lightroom and Photoshop is terrific
suppose you have a great shot that's
just too noisy to print 5 years from now
there may be some noise reduction that's
going to make it look fabulous but if
it's blurred

the gear is just the way to make your
capturing what do you think about easier
you know in the end it's a tool it's all
about light composition and moment or
what make up a good photo if you have
all three you've got a really fantastic
