Fashion Photoshoot Behind-the-Scenes with Gelled Strobes & a Cyclorama! Video Lecture | Capture like a Pro: Digital Photography Tutorial - Professional Skills

I started planning my shoot by finding
inspiration I knew that I wanted
something in studio that was heavy a
mood form light and style
I began by compiling shots I liked in
Google Docs
I chose poses outfits hair makeup
lighting no single photo looked exactly
like what I wanted but each had an
element that I liked that I could pass
along to hair makeup in the model to
convey my final vision once I knew what
I wanted I found the studio and booked
the date next I found a model that would
fit the look that I was looking for
Chelsea is tall long and has a great
look for showing off lines and form
she looks high-fashion and fit my vision
how's it going I spoke to a hair and
makeup artist and conveyed the look that
I wanted I also sent her some pictures
from my mood board on my Google Doc I
didn't use a stylist this time hopefully
it isn't too obvious I got all of the
clothes and accessories for about $200
by shopping at cheap trendy shops the
fur coat was something I picked up
months ago because I thought it would
look great under lights to further
inspire hair makeup in the model I dress
the mannequin and the clothes that I had
picked out and sent a picture to them I
told them I wanted a modern slightly 70s
glam look winged cat eye colorful pop
but a clean sleek ponytail for a more
high-fashion look I wanted everyone on
board so we all knew what we were going
for with the final picture I had an idea
of what I wanted for the lighting but I
wanted to be sure I was ready so that I
wouldn't waste expensive studio time
messing around with the lights so I put
together some lighting charts and showed
them to Tony and we planned out our
strategy for how we would set up the
shoot we did make a list of everything
you needed we have a lights and lectors
fans fans pumped put it in and get to
the studio and then we've got our car
out from
no good need to raise it son
you sure yeah just a little bit okay oh
that's better
while the model was getting ready in
hair and makeup we set up the studio
Justin posed for some test shots very
generously I don't know I'm not Sophie
and Tony help me arrange the lights to
get just the look that we were going for
with the grid did is it didn't light the
background which is what we want because
we want to light the background with the
gel lightly Wow so shiny just go and
he's going to catch you mid mid way okay
like inside of your foot towards ya at
Esalen yeah like you know like your mom
made you go on Maury Povich it works see
I'm saying if you guys bet it
oh I like that one to do that a few more
times with it because you're going to
get you're going to get the shot okay
let's go close
yeah it looks normal from the front good
I like that how you rolled your
shoulders a little bit perfect really
nice yeah yeah and then twist yeah yeah
there you go swap out cameras because
this one will be better than that lens
you would have been unhappy with those
other ones Canon she looks like Elton
John this is just a test shot but you
look awesome that looks awesome
right ready yeah and could you put your
feet out in front
you haven't even caught up yet man and
head up yep good good just hold and
stuff pretending to be plugged in you

blue gels covered the strobe to the left
pointing at the backdrop pink gelled
strobe to the right pointed at the
backdrop as well and we had a bear main
light we would have liked a reflector on
the main light but we ran out and just
wanted that hard book to cast a shadow
on the wall behind the model you can
play with your own variations on the
sliding by experimenting in a few ways
you could add grids to the gelled
strobes to better control the spill of
the color of the light on the backdrop
or you could add a grid to the main
light to keep the uncoloured light only
on the model and off of the backdrop you
could add a gel to the main light for a
tri color book there are so many ways
you can make this shot your own so
experiment and have fun yeah oh I love
this one she's going like and then I and
then I just have to catch you at the
right time she probably felt I felt like
I have a a mattress there let's try it
again one two three go yeah yeah I think
the potential is like this and then we
work
arms a little bit yeah like her yeah I
think she just have such with a little
bit more I like that one too
once we had our lights set up and our
model ready we had fun and we
experimented we did a bunch of different
poses we had our model jump we tried to
freeze action it was a great time and an
easy shoot set up I hope you try one of
