Fretboard Navigation Video Lecture | Guitar: Become a Pro (English) - Music

you know when it comes down to I'm a
simple man and I really only have two
goals in life number one to avoid as
much male nudity as possible and number
two to teach you how to get around the
fretboard so today we're just going to
go over maybe some things you missed in
some of the previous videos to kind of
start connecting all the stuff together
between chords and feels and arpeggios
and stuff and the example we're going to
use today sounds like this

so we're kind of moving around a little
bit
we're starting with a cord and you're
going to see these are really the same
shapes just kind of moved around a
little alright so the first thing we're
doing is hitting world and me and a
minor chord right and basically you know
squares open and really cabin one judean
ug1
being open right this is the most common
voicing of a minor or they'll leave and
all that is is just in a a C and E note
put together so starting to learn kind
of where some of these notes are is
going to be really helpful for your
playing and the first thing we're going
to do is we're going to play an a minor
and a SC put the e in a different way
starting on the fifth fret of the E
string which is an a this is a root note
now we're going to take the our minor
third right here in the eighth fret and
then we're going to go to the fifth of
that chord the E which is the seventh
fret of the a string so a minor a minor
arpeggio right so we've got the chord
into this three note arpeggio cord
however you look at it and we're going
to slide it down the exact same shape on
the octave a the twelfth travel d--ation
so so we're gonna get this thank you and
your ring finger so you just repeat this
shape farther away and now there are
easier ways to do this but this is going
to be kind of like an example to get you
to start moving around the fretboard
it's starting to see root gnome looking
a being here and a being here minor
third being here but it's bird being
here stuff like that right now the way
we're gonna do all these chords is we're
going to play in three four timing or
six eight timing how we won't look at it
we're gonna go one two one two three one
two three one two
and I think incorporating some kind of
rhythmic elements into your practicing
no matter if it's scales arpeggios tools
whatever is really important because as
long as you're kind of practicing
physicians and shapes you might as well
practice your rhythm in your timing at
the same time so you can use a metronome
you can just try to try to do it by ear
try you drunk track or something like
that however you want to do it but try
to get like a groove or like a rhythm
into it so 1 2 3 1 2 3
a arpeggios into the next octave they're
going to go to E minor opening new HUD
everything else is open now we're going
to do the exact same thing except we're
going to do those arpeggios on an e so
we're gonna start with an open e and get
in minor 3rd and which amaya third is
always three frets away from a root note
so E G B which is like a from a string a
sharpie eg be an easy now the next place
the shape is going to happen is going to
be the seventh fret on the a string is
our root note our E then a minor third
away from there there's another G and
then this so that is a be right there
the ninth fret of the D string so we've
got a minor

the nice thing is you can kind of keep
your boy finger is five two to seven
give you that right and now if you have
this down you can start playing around
with the rhythm a little bit you can
kind of strum a little more aggressively
so what I was doing there just going on

heading those beats and cutting one half
and going down down up down up down down
up down up like 1 2 & 3 & 1 2 3 & 1 & 2
& 3 & 1 & 2 M 3 M so you notice I'm
going down and up with my pick 1 & u & 3
& 1
and so there's really no way you could
ever get too good with this exercise
because those other stuff that you can
add to it you can kind of do batcher
picking however you want to do it but
you can kind of just keep the the
philosophy of taking the core and adding
notes to it and these are both minor
chords so they have the same shape that
you can move around the fretboard right
so the next thing we're going to do is
we're gonna do it a major chord and why
not take good old C major right so 3 a 2
D open G and 1 B right
same pattern 5 6 but now we're going to
do a slightly different arpeggio if this
was B minor we would have the minor 3rd
right here in the fifth but the
difference between major and minor is a
bad nut right there right so a major 3rd
the forefront away minor first be fun
too and you'd also play a major 3rd by
going and diagonal 1 over down strength
but we're going to do it
like that right so we have a route a
major 3rd and 5th 3 a 2 7 a 2 5 feet now
you can reach for it or I think it kind
of sounds cool to slide from from two
fronts of three five to seven five and
then instead of repeating this like we
did the first one we could do it back
down here down across the octave I want
to slide into a one think of like a C
major Barre chord voicing down here
alright this is just a c-shape but over
the octave bar right here so we're going
to slide into the 15th fret see I'm a
streamin next bean 15 from the a string
4th fret of the D string 12th fret of
the g string so we have a seat Indian
energy again C plus B plus C equal C
major no matter how you cut it off right
so we've got 1 2 4 5 6
see eg C ok so can we just go from here
slide see slide right into that next C
the G now we're going to be exact same
thing but we're gonna change it make one
final chord a G chord G major right I
know this 3 e new a and G B and D
another GS bottom string there right
we're going to feed exactly what we did
with the C chord the 1 string
lower right so 1 2 3 1 2 3
G B D
okay so the whole thing together and
let's do just a major hoards
back-to-back right so we got B then we
can combine it into a four-four thing
like a progression and it would come
like this so you're going to start with
the a mine a B G minor G B G me G B D
then kind of resolved on a a minor so
there you go just lined in you don't
even have to play him in order it's just
kind of about creating this roadmap of
our page root notes kind of how these
all connect to each other and I think
finding non-efficient ways to move
through these different notes is a good
way to just kind of plant them in your
head and kind of see these chord
voicings and see these are these shapes
repeating all over the neck there you
have it
