How to Accompany on Guitar with Extended Chords Video Lecture - Guitar

you know Jessie some things are awful
once they become extended case in point
the Lord of the Rings movies hotcake I
think they're awful the extended
editions when I lived in Las Vegas it
there's a Christmas tradition that we
watch the Lord of the Rings
every Christmas day right like three to
three of my friends that's right and
then one year we want to watch the
extended editions it was the longest day
of my you know what you can do that is
you can make cord extensions you can
make extension extend those chord shapes
and those are not nearly as painful as
the Lord of the Rings extended Isha's
that just make you on a diet
I'm Christmas which like the satisfy so
anyways this is my man Jackie how's it

extension madness yes and if you like

we're going to talk about two chords did
you major chord and the C major chord C
the one and the four and that's right or
the one of the five in the key is C T's
but we might talk about that later
we're we're solidly it gonna be in the
key where the cube and it's basically
going to be you kind of how to play with
another guitarist who's maybe just
thrown out okay or is it what you what
you do now jesse is a guitarist of
notoriety but I'm going to dump it down
her physics thousand subscribe or the
purpose of this demonstration we're
gonna we're going to dumb you down to
just open G and open C let's do it right
so yeah just make them run around a
genius E chord back and forth I'm ready
and we'll do a regular example so far
two three four let them do anything
right what do i do where I come in I
play the same thing

all right what was what's my role here I
get super boring right kind of like it's
kind of like the scene in Rivendell or
they're like going over like the elves
wardrobes and the extended it's kind of
like an ask you but yeah yeah so let's
go and try to like dress it up with some
different ward voicings

cool so basically yes it's more of an
accompanying role exactly so it's not
it's so muddy exactly how are there's a
little bit of space a little bit of
separation exactly
so I'm or I'm or low register please
more that I register and munitions
working together almost a fellowship if
you will exactly this is trying to get
starts trying to get you to a
destination yes ah so then you're going
to be it's going to be the one chord
voicing to rule them all right here
that's the major seven chord voicing
that we're using and we're going to use
it and two different voicings that we're
using different spots so basically the
first one I was doing he was playing a G
major chord I'm going to play AG major 7
chord voicing I'm gonna start in the
middle of the neck right here okay so
all this is it's the octave G is my root
note right here so just around the D
string I'm going to grab that with my
index finger and with my pinky for my
ring finger I'm gonna bar the bottom
three strings at 7th fret this it blows
up G major 7 chord voicings ok so now
again the next chord he goes to is a C
right so if I want to keep the same vibe
going C major 7 all I have to do is keep
this bar intact and then adding to my
pinky or my ring finger to the 7 foot so
now I have 5 5 5
okay I'm intercept you major seven
beautiful great thing about this chord
voicing even though my root note isn't
the lowest note what I'm perceiving the
root note to be is a the front above
where my ring finger is there's a C
forms of your toe on that g string for
direct read/write that an actual that's
the actual root that's what we got guys
so that's just one thing that I can do
now we're going to do one other location
for this and that's going to be down
here this is going to be the third
voicing regime major stuff we're going
to use now the G on a string is tenser
I'm going to grab power chord 12 D 11 g
taking 12 B now so this will give me a
major 7th chord voicing whatever I'm
rooted now if I go to the sea yet I
could go all the way back here same
voices kind of inefficient I would have
a yeah
that would be like if you're going to
mordor wrong you're taking yeah you're
going around the mouth yeah well why did
they just have one of those giant Eagles
drop them off exactly do you ever think
about that you know they have those
giant Eagles it like Gandalf summon
isn't like save them why don't they just
like drop them off at the mouth there's
some things we just don't understand
yeah you know yeah I feel they really
underutilized those giant eagle then we
wouldn't need them you know I have a lot
of thoughts on Lord of the Rings that I
might actually get to it another time
basically but then we wouldn't need to
watch the movie it's right there the
extended yeah yeah I had a lot of
questions these seven versions did not
answer right anyways back to this chord
voicing rival circle X try some pumpkin
a little bothered right now go G major 7
oh there's the senior tusu is there
they're the same voice we did earlier

all right so you kind of always find
these as a1 to a4 so even if we're not
in the key of G we're in the key D we do
this it's a set under for write all
these grooves are going to be compatible
anywhere that you do them another thing
that is great about this is if you want
to start soloing a little bit yes you're
near some solo hotspot Shantz about to
rip it up I don't know about that yeah
but I'm gonna I'm going to get in my
mind about everybody's favorite minor
pentatonic it's a favorite minor
pentatonic so in the key of G would be
will be easy minor pentatonic yeah for
sure
so if these two voicings right here kind
of land me real close to so there we go
look at that I don't even want I don't
even need a cutaway you don't need to
come out there I am I have a saws on the

everywhere yeah so maybe you play those
chords again right two three I'll start

it was clear that now you go higher you
can't go back and forth pick up a lot of
different things you can do is this kind
of like getting me endless and it really
is an endless like the end of Return of
the King which should have ended for
even in the not extended edition it's
really just like a farewell tour I think
I may be prevented about the end of
returns being in a jail before anyways

not know Lord of the Rings crazy but
some people might be hating on you
because you know yeah well that's good
extended versions they love the extended
version yeah you know I please direct

which can't hate on is the beauty of
using major in seven chords any extend
exactly to add to open chords to
accompany on the guitar player however
you want to do it just using really
technically free voicings that are near
pentatonic shapes you lose it or even a
mode like in the key of G a Dorian mode
which is my Norway the starting today
