Hot Licks with Sean Daniel Video Lecture - Guitar Become a Pro (English)

hey everybody welcome to hot licks with
Sean Daniel new series alert now
generally in the past I have shied away
from the term lick for a guitar phrase
but I've kind of taken a 180 on that and
if we can call it a hot lick then I'm
all-in so I think every now and then I
kind of go over one of the hottest licks
that I can come up with and maybe talk
about like the theory behind it break it
down and we're gonna start off the
inaugural journeyer sail ship whatever
with the hottest look I know right now
or sounds like this so I think that's a
hot look if that's not a hot like I
don't know what is and it's all coming
from this a minor pentatonic scale
double stopping through it okay so we've
got a minor chord everybody's favorite -
D - G 1 B kind of so really I'm just
kind of playing an E minor
then I'm going into a aimed minor
pentatonic Kotlik gonna get over that
basically aims a minor pentatonic is 5 5
7 8 come on you know they scale now
double stopping is playing to those
notes in time alright so what I'm
thinking of let's just take the D and
the g strings five seven five seven
alright and what I was doing I was going
17 and 7g
just kind of playing those together
right so we've got a minor all right now
I'm going Nexus to this guy right here
which is part of the same - shake - D -
G
I'm just coupling these spots okay and
then I've got this 5 a - 7 a ham rattles
yeah and then I'm grabbing just the top
the leftmost
shape you notice the fifth fret is on
all these right so you can kind of see
this is the bottom of a C major chord
like this a minor shape with some
vibrato on there really and then just
kind of grab that cord are we want to
look at it a piece of scale doesn't
really matter as long as you can get her
to sound hot so we're going forget I

notice sometimes there's mutes in
between there so 7 between that slide

really just kind of like adding mutes
generally anywhere is a cool kind of
percussive thing that you can start
doing really any aspect of your playing
doing it a lot on this a minor chord

okay now the really cool thing about
this this highway this lesson is that we
can couple this shape with any minor
chord so say we would do the whole thing
two frets higher on a B minor
[Music]
and then I'm kind of reflecting that
b-minor my swinging my pinkie down the
fifth fret on the high E string
and we do the same thing that I did in
the a shape but now I'm thinking of B
minor pentatonic exact same thing okay
so having these repeatable patterns and
recognizing where they are along the
fretboard is essential to making the
hottest licks imaginable okay so yeah

end songs but basically just real quick
hot lick I thought maybe you'd be
interested in and that all comes through
that minor scale now the way that we
kind of dragged back from here there's
just a lot of different ways to look at
it if I'm thinking of the key of a minor
that brings me to G mixolydian where I'm
kind of thinking that's where I got that
shape from you can think of getting that
shape from the a minor chord itself
whatever different ways looking the same
thing but that's it we're just kind of
going over a few licks every now and
then and hopefully this inspires you to
make your own licks no I can't guarantee
they're gonna be as piping hot as that
one but you got to start somewhere
