behind every great man is another great
man to support him the same is true with
notes so we're gonna talk about harmony
today that's right
uh-huh how are we gonna tell about you
well I think we're doing the big six of
harmony base is that the easiest way to
cut yeah we're gonna talk at you know
we're gonna design a pentatonic based
sure and start putting different
intervals on top of it I think because
harmonized to harmonize or adding a
different note

hear this all the time whether it's some
bands have two guitars whether it's one
guitar player playing it at one time
piano and guitar and the thing is is um
there's a lot of ways to harmonize
something but I feel like when you're
learning about harmony harmonization
it's about what you like it's right
that's it the basics of it the easiest
example of harmony is chord all right
that's it gives their notes working
together to create a common goal all the
court can also be called a harmonized
major scale yeah
very beautiful do you think about it is
different notes coming from different
places different backgrounds you get
emotional coalescing in one beautiful
major seven chord oh yeah you're right
you do love a major seventh yeah I guess
you know you found that beautiful well
let's go right from a major seven to a
pentatonic ready yeah what is the lead
gonna sound like I'll leave the riff I
designed you know to come you you man

days is this a an E minor pentatonic

well you are gonna be the harmonizing
guitar so that's what that's the humble
supportive character and your

exact same notes nothing different huh
so how do we check our harmonization
well let's do that same thing but I'll
play an octave up an octave up okay one

so already it's different it's little
different and I like it I mean it is an
octave octave harmony and I can
distinctly hear two guitar parts and you
do hear this stuff all the time
sure so if you like an octave harmony
there it is some people might even say
yeah I get I get it
but the majority in harmony comes from
different actual notes yes and this is
where I'm learning your intervals is
great yes lerton learning intervals and
how they compare to where you are huge
and so with that in mind what's your
gonna be your first like interval jump
for me
well I think I actually want to go in
order okay okay so this is not gonna be
we're gonna start off with the harmony
by which you will probably never use
ever and that's a minor second I'm just
gonna play everything he's playing an
octave up so an octave up from this this
is the 15th round the B string then same
13 be a minor second sister fret higher

that's what they do it slightly detuned

now it's kind of mixing and matching

that divergence is something that you
want maybe that could mean something in
a song songwriting oh look at that
I don't know cuz you write something but
you tell a story that's right but don't
be afraid to take things they like like
say you like a harmony that it sounds
out of the the minor third on that Ben

too not too hot well you know what
there's nothing wrong with saying why
when you use the minor third for the
first two parts of that riff preserve
and then come up with something later
which we're gonna get to and this is
very like a zoomed in version of harmony

over the place yeah their harmonies are
incredible yeah another one so a major
third would be burning earth for an
outsider who a love it one two

remember like a major fairness let me
start putting those major thirds in it
might not work in the next song in the
context of that song no but now I know
major thirds to mr. stitch here you know
is like tasty especially a major thirds
over pentatonix oh yeah yeah because you
have something that's kind of like
alright just rockin yep not exotic in a
lot of different ways but you know once
your harmonizing entire lines
yeah then many times you're actually
bringing notes in to and out of like
different scales
yeah that's why sometimes it can be very
very interesting yeah you're right clear
pentatonic is it some bland but the
minor pentatonic has its right
I didn't say bland blues players you
know I'm sorry I thought I it's not what
I said roll the tape back I didn't say
it yeah I just think it has a very
particular sound five notes out of seven
and you're right and if you've
harmonized you might grab some other
notes from outside your scale just a
which is great really do all right so
that's this is a high on the neck
because I want to get so lucky for me I
watched a bunch of Shaun Daniel videos I
don't have to just play on one string I
can do like the major scale
and I find Oh what's this is is the for

well there you go I think that might be
one of the more traditional issue as a
fifth because whenever you take a route
known as fifth use making a power power
cord so we're just kind of making power
cords over lead lions yep an octave
apart and again I have a separate they
have a staple sound you hear that a lot
like metal harmonies actually hear it a
lot in harmony sir yeah we keep going I
don't think you need us to it it's just
finding the interval that you like get
looping of a phrase yeah they are way to
practice this and kind of find out well
you just nailed it like getting a looper
down of the phrase and starting your
interval journey there are many many
ways to harmonize something sure and
this is just about you discovering your
intervals from your riff and design what
you like and you know what I like and I
don't know how well soon come out is I
like the mixture between the the fourths
and the thirds yeah so if you end up
coming up with a harmony you like but
you don't have to awesome dudes develop
with you just have yourself well you
know you can take this riff here like
and you say well here's my 1 and you'll
learn like there's my 3 so I can kind of
play the thirds by myself like
and okay cool but you know I also like
the fourth it's okay so now like here's
my one there's like four but I
remembered it I like in the first part I
didn't like in the second part so I'm
gonna try through the fourth on the
first Bend the third the second I have
no idea let's say
you know and also you have a guitar line
that's thick sure and harmonized yeah
just by yourself and maybe don't never
think that way maybe you can just double
stop through a shape yeah yeah and
that's what's happening that's not
really you're just adding this and
support to it

yourself a loop I get your into bowls

disclaimer and it's not like most
harmonies like oh let's just move
everything a major third up or something
but I think probably more traditionally
it's like what you're doing an example
of is like this one's gonna be the major
third yeah and then maybe I'll kind of
like sprinkle in a different note here

at a time which harmony don't you like
them doesn't have to be guitar no
background vocals and pop sign in any
song is the same thing you sing the same
line might major third up yeah that's it
