to begin we need to start by choosing a
workspace and resetting preferences
let's start by going to tools workspaces
and choose spotlight next go up to tools
again then go down to options and
Vectorworks preferences click reset in
the bottom left corner and then click
yes to confirm the reset action now go
back to tools and then down to smart
cursor settings click OK to the did you
know dialog box click reset in the
bottom left corner and then click Yes to
confirm the reset action select the grid
category on the left under grid options
uncheck show grid and then click OK to
exit the smart cursor settings dialog
box now let's create a new document so
go ahead click file and then new and
select create blank document and click
OK now let's go on to page setup page
setup options are accessible by going to
file and then page setup here we can
establish the size of a page and select
a printer so let's go ahead and
establish an architectural size be sheet
so go ahead go up to file page setup
click the box for choose size
unavailable and printer setup in the
size list choose a u.s. arc be uncheck
show page breaks and show page boundary
and click OK
next we're going to set up unit settings
for this new document unit settings are
applied throughout the drawing from the
measurements that display on the rulers
to those used in dimensions and
worksheets select file document settings
then units choose either feet and inches
or meters from the units list next we're
going to go ahead and adjust the layer
scale
lay your scale is the ratio of the
actual size of an object to its size in
the drawing for this project we will
need a quarter inch scale so if you
right-click or control-click on Mac in a
blank area of the drawing a context menu
will appear in this menu choose active
layer scale then go down and choose
quarter inch and click OK now let's talk
about our organization briefly to set up
the design layer and class structure for
your document you can go to tools and
then organization or use the navigation
palette so let's start with a navigation
palette click on the design layers tab
right-click on Windows or ctrl click on
Mac on design layer 1 and choose edit
change the name to scan and click OK now
go to tools and then organization under
the design layers tab click new name the
new design layer floor plan and click OK
click OK in the organization dialog
again to save the changes
