How to Create a Split Text Design in CadWorxLive Video Lecture - CADWorx

I'm gentle with stahls TV and today
we're going to be going over how to
create split text effects in
cadworxlive.com so as you can see we
already have cadworxlive.com or four you
would be brought to a page and you would
go to the login button type in your
username and password and then it would
bring you to this page so of course we
want to launch the design studio so
we're going to click launch design
studio 2.2 it just has some updated
features that are going to be feasible
for you when it comes to creating
artwork I've already launched the design
studio so I'm going to go ahead up to
that tab and of course you can see that
I already have my artwork brought up so
I just want to go ahead and click the
design that we're going to be recreating
and it is a fun split text effect that
is very popular for false and where so
I'm going to enlarge that for you so you
can see all of the detail in this design
I just want to teach you how to recreate
this it was a popular look that a lot of
people really liked in the fall fan ware
or spirit where guide that we did live
on stalls TV and Facebook so that you
can recreate this for your customers
this fall so I'm going to go ahead and
move this to the side and we're just
going to recreate this so of course I
want to bring in my text so I'm going to
click add text and we're going to type
in our high school so we have North
Central High School and I want to go
ahead and click my font choose a font
that I want to go with for that
particularly I went to the athletic file
and it brought up all the athletic fonts
that CAD work offers so I'm going to go
with the font right here it's the
underscore vx athletic v
so I'm going to double-click the font
that I chose and it's going to change it
from the basic Arial text to my athletic
5 text right so I'm all set up there but
I want to add a contour line to the
outside so as you saw from the design
that we were looking at before this it
had a contour line around a portion of
that design so I want to go ahead and
add that effect now before we get into
all of our other steps to create that
split text or broken text effect so I
want to go with Gap outline and it's
going to create a gap outline for me
around my NC HS so you can see over here
on the right side it has offset steps
and fill right now all I want to do is
work with the offset because I don't
want it to be that much of a gap between
the contour line and the actual text so
I'm just going to take that down to
about a 4 or a 5 so that's a little
closer to my letters there and it's
going to decrease that gap outline all
right so I'm ok with that I'm going to
click OK and then that gives me my basic
text now comes the intricate part where
we're going to start creating that split
or broken text effect in there so what I
want to do is import or add clip art so
that works live offers a variety of
different clip art and what I'm looking
for is just a horizontal line because
I'm going to take that line and punch it
through those letters so that it creates
a split text effect all right so I'm
going to go with this line that way I
can just duplicate this and create Q and
I'm just going to work with this line
clip art ok so I'm going to adjust this
to make it a little bigger
and I want it to be a little thicker
than not as well so I'm just going to
adjust that slightly and of course I'm
creating two lines here so I want to
just control D so that I can duplicate
that and then I'm going to rotate both
of these so that they are going
diagonally through my text so I just
selected both of those by scrolling over
top of them alright and I'm going to
individually place these where I want
them to go through my text and of course
if they're not the exact diagonal that
you want them to be you can adjust them
by just clicking this little box over
here and it will indicate that it's
going to rotate the figure okay so I
have it exactly where I want it to be
now so I can go ahead and do the same
with this one as well so I want to
rotate this again and bring it through
the text where I want it to punch
through those letters to make it look
broken all right so I have exactly where
I want the lines to be placed so I'm
going to change the color of these so I
know whether they're on top of my text
or behind my text for this we want them
to be on top of the text so that we can
back - front them so the back - front
option is a feature under the shaping
tab right here where my arrows pointing
it'll actually make an object punch
through your text before I do my back -
front option I'm going to select the
line in the text that I want to punch
through first so I'm going to move this
line out of the way so I don't select
that I'm just going to drag my box so
that I have the text and line both
selected
all right so now that both of those are
selected I'm going to go to my shaping
tab I'm going to go down to back - front
and that's going to punch that line
straight through that text so now we
have a split text effect in there so I
can go ahead and get rid of that line by
just clicking delete and then I'm going
to realign this line and as you can see
since we were messing around with the
text a little bit it brought it to the
front so what I want to do now is bring
my line to the front so that it's
hovering over top of the text so I'm
going to double click and click to front
and then I'm just going to as I
mentioned realign this so that it's
going through the text exactly where I
want it to be okay so now I'm going to
do the same process I'm just going to
drag so that both of my line and my text
are selected go to shaping and do the
back - front button again okay so now I
have both of my split text effects in
there now it's time to kind of break up
those letters and make it a little more
unique so we'll delete that line and
we'll start messing with these before we
do this we want to select our entire
design or graphic and go to shaping
again and we want to break apart by
region so this is going to ungroup all
of our pieces this is what we want to be
able to get rid of this outer gap line
so what I can do is just drag these down
and then I don't have these gap lines
anymore
okay so for the inside of these lines I
still want my Gap outline because that's
what really makes this design unique so
I'm just going to adjust that see get it
back in place now you can see whenever I
tried to click the inside of that so you
to get rid of that contour gap it chose
the black part of the C as opposed to
the gray so what I want to do is get
that out of the way by clicking to back
it will still stay there but it will
make this piece on top and it will be
easier to select for me to get out okay
so I'm going to do the same thing with
these pieces up here as well getting rid
of all of the gap outline and then we
can just delete those by selecting them
and clicking delete all right so I have
all of my effects where I want them to
be now I want to go ahead and mess with
the color so before I do that I just
want to go in here and double check so I
can see that I left the inside this n in
there so I want to go ahead and get that
out so I'm going to click to back and
then click my gray piece in there so
that that's selected goes to back again
and we're just going to drag that out of
there and delete that okay so we're good
to go now now I want to group certain
pieces together so that I can make them
the same color for this section of the
age I want to take that largest piece
and click two back so I get it out of
the way of me being able to select these
pieces so the control button is held in
on my keyboard and I'm selecting each
piece now I'm going to go up here to
these pieces and select those as well
now that I have those selected I want to
regroup those so I'm going to click
condense and that's going to group all
of those pieces for me now I want this
section of my s to be grouped with those
as well so you can see that this little
piece of my s did not get selected in
there and I want it to be the same color
as those so what I need to do is select
that little piece and of course I need
to get the largest piece of this two
back so I'm going to right click and
click to back and click this little
piece in there
and then click control again so I'm
holding in my control button on the
keyboard and then I'm selecting that
entire piece now I want to click
condense again alright so now it's a
part of that and I can go ahead and
select a color for that alright and of
course as I showed you earlier from that
other design these pieces look broken
apart or like they're broken text so all
I have to do is just shift this slightly
how whichever way I want to whether it's
up towards the left or down towards the
right to kind of make these sections
look broken now I'm not going to do this
drastically because I don't want the
design to look too messy now whenever I
do this portion I can go ahead and
actually just move these out of the way
because I know all my alignment is just
fine now I'm going to select all of
these in group sees this is just an
easier way of getting the text to be the
colors that you want to do so I'm going
to group it and then I'm going to go up
the shaping and click break apart by
colors so that way it's easier for me to
go in and select that gray and choose a
color for that okay so now I can just
line this up how it was earlier and we
have our finished broken or split text
effect now of course if you want to add
personalization such as this volleyball
up here all you have to do is add text
like we did earlier by just going to the
top left-hand button that says add text
and type in any type of personalization
or customization that you would want
there so I can go ahead and choose my
font
and then I'm just going to drop that
right below in the right corner all I
need to do is just drop that right below
I can do it in the right corner
whichever your preference is if you want
to Center it just make sure this is all
grouped together by clicking condense
and then you can just drop this in
wherever you see fit so if I wanted it
to be centered I can select both of them
go to a line and click Center and it
will Center that for me or if I want
this to line up with the right hand side
all I have to go is to align and click
right and they'll line it up on the
right for me great and that is how you
create a broken text or split text
effect in cadworxlive.com
you
