you how to give an amazing presentation
that will wow your audience and get them
to thank you afterwards
I'm going to teach you and if you look
up here's my agenda I already gave you
the hook this is what I actually suggest
you do you stand up and you say to them
I'm going to teach you X I said I'm
going to teach you how to give an
amazing presentation that Wow's your
audience gets them to thank you
afterwards and here's how I'm going to
do it and then I show you this I give
you these deliverables and I say how I'm
going to do it and I'm going to model
everything I suggest you do it used to
drive me crazy when I would go watch
presenters and instructors professors
teachers didn't matter and they would
tell me to do something but they
wouldn't model it so I had no idea how
to do it everything I teach you today
I'm going to show you exactly how to do
it by the way I do it now did you notice
the way I started this off I showed this
agenda and I told you three things you
remember what they were I told you why
you'd want it that was the hook I told
you what you were going to get those are
these things and I told you how I was
going to do it that's how you start your
presentations you start with a hook you
show them an agenda and you tell them
those three things so let's get started
with how to prepare the first thing I'm
going to suggest is that you create a
snapshot grid now I actually have one of
those right here this is the exact same
PowerPoint presentation that you have
except that for every slide I have
written under this what I'm going to say
but I didn't write everything I'm going
to say I wrote a snapshot grid what that
means is I can look at this and at any
given moment I can find one key word
that will let me speak for two more
minutes
that's what you need to do so this is my
script I recommend a snapshot script the
other thing I'm going to suggest is that
you focus on your audience and I want
you to write down two numbers for me
ninety ten this is how you do this 90%
of your brain you guys tell me should be
focused on the audience or what you have
to say which one you think it is the
audience
10% is what you have to say if that's
true how well do you need to know your
presentations you need to know them
lights out and here's how you get there
you need to practice your presentation
in real time three times that's how you
do it that's how you get to ninety ten
the first thing you want to do to hook
your audience
you have to tell them why they should
listen to you you must start with this
you can't tell them what they're going
to get most people tell people what
they're going to get and it doesn't work
it's interesting there's three things
you can tell people you can tell them
why they should learn something you can
tell them how they're going to learn it
and you can tell them what they're going
to get what do you think the most
powerful is the why but what do most
people start with to what I'm going to
teach you this this is it doesn't work
people don't care what you're going to
teach them until they believe that what
you're going to teach them is important
I was a couple of years ago actually it
was about about a year ago I was
watching people lined up to buy the
Apple iPad and I talked to these people
I said hey I see her in line for the
Apple iPad what is it that you're
excited about for this I don't know I
just know I got to have it what do you
mean what what what what kind of
functionalities has had that you want I
don't know but I heard this thing's
amazing and I wanted to be one to get it
why is it amazing why I heard it can
make your life easier
oh that's why they wanted they didn't
know what it could do but they knew it
could make their life easier so when you
give your presentations the first thing
you want to do is say okay why should
somebody take my presentation why will
it make their life better and here's
