hello everyone this is budgets are cool
and you are watching a hopefully short
video on how to use the magic wand tool
so just all the applications are not all
of them but some of the applications and
some of the options that you can fiddle
with so anyway the magic wand tool is
all about selecting an area based on a
boundary that you set for it now of
course the easiest boundary that you can
set is an outline so just a circle or
any other shape that you want to fill or
delete so for instance I have magic wand
on now I'm on the correct layer and when
I press inside of it I'll select inside
when I second it when I select outside
of it then I select the outside now
right now I'm using the precise
selection mode you can also use rough or
a color difference as far as I can tell
precise it more or less selects just up
to your line and a little into it rough
will select up to the outer boundary so
the opposite boundary that you would
touch first so when I select inside it
goes up to that outside when I select
outside it goes up to the inside for a
color difference it's a little more
picky it'll select up to the very first
pixel that starts turning a different
opacity or color when our bar is all the
way down there and when we make the bar
up there then it is less picky and it
was like all the way up there if we
select
then we stuck the entire thing because
that's just saying that we're being not
picky at all and what we're trying to
select so it doesn't see anything as a
boundary there another way to
demonstrate this is with a hole in the
outline of the circle oh my gosh it's
being slow oh no I just doesn't like
this I will delete it oh wow look at
that it's crazy okay
anyway we have a hole there right so if
I try to select inside of it it doesn't
work because there's a hole it selects
everything now if I draw a little line
to try to complete the circle then it
works because it goes right up to it and
then everything's nice but if we put the
transparency threshold up then it skips
right over it and it does the same thing
with rough and color difference awesome
and so that's for selection mode now for
selection source we can use another
layer to demonstrate what they do so if
I say current layer then it'll only
select what's on or it only use the
boundary as defined on the layer that
you're currently on so if I make another
circle make this at that circle over
here and I try to select the inside of
it it works everything inside is
selected and everything outside will
also be selected if I select out there
and the same thing goes for if I'm on
the original layer in which the circle
is actually mr. slash threshold is too
high right now is okay so yeah and yep
now if I say selection source then it's
kind of like current layer except you
pretty much just save what layer you
wanted to use the boundary as used as a
boundary so you do that by just
selecting that little dot right there
on whichever
that you want it to use a selection
source and you can only have one
selected at a time so sir over that and
now if you say canvas as your selection
source then it won't discriminate
against whatever layer you're currently
on it only use whatever layer is
currently visible so if I try select
outside I'll select outside of both of
them if I select inside there there and
there so what you see is what you get
for canvas selection source yep that's
about it for selection on selected
source now for coloring what you'll want
to do is select the inside or outside
depending on how how you want to go
about it because if you set outside you
can just a control shift I to invert
your selection and you'll get a
different selection based on that
because this year is different than if I
try to select all the inside right
because I don't have that line selected
for this one but in the other case I did
so if I have that
so whatever selection I have I make a
new layer and on that layer make sure
you're not on one of your outline layers
press ctrl + F oops sorry let's use a
different color
control adapt and there we have our
color layer independent of outline
layers and let's just go through a quick
application that I usually use it for
okay so what we're gonna do here is
bring up the pre-drawn outline that I
had before I drew before hand and she's
noticed that the face outline or line
art is separate from the rest of it just
because there's that overlap there as
you can see and that just makes using
the magic wand as selection tool a bit
clunky and difficult when you're in
there so I will select the inside of the
hair of course I'll have to go back to
current layer because since I'm on
canvas selection source right now it
doesn't select this little part because
it sees the eyes as part of the
selection source so if I do current
layer then it works so I can do that
just get some pink hair going we can get
some skin in there too of course
everyone needs clothes and
a slow computer color I just colored on
the outline there which is bad okay
I think control Z can't fix and now I
will go to face layer selector select
her eyes and then we can give her some
greenish eyes and there you have it it's
just a simplified version of what I
usually do to color and yeah that's it
