Inkscape Beginner Tutorial Simple Folder Icon Video Lecture - Inkscape

this is Nick with logos by Nick comm and
in today's tutorial I'm going to
demonstrate how you can create this very
simple folder using Inkscape and at any
point in this tutorial you could look
down to the bottom left hand side of my
screen to see which mouse clicks and
keystrokes I'm using so let me minimize
that and we'll get started the first
thing we'll do in Inkscape is set the
view to custom and then we'll zoom in at
a hundred percent then we'll open our
line and distribute menu with this
button we're going to want less selected
chosen from that drop-down and then
we'll open up our edit objects colors
gradients and Stroke menu with that
button so the first thing we're gonna do
is create a rectangle so let's come to
the the squares and rectangles tool and
just click and drag on the canvas to
create a rectangle about that size and
I'll go back to the Select tool I'm
gonna color this thing in with a shade
of yellow and I'll convert that to a
path by going to path object to path and
then I'll right-click that and go to
duplicate and I'm gonna take this
duplicated copy and come up to the fill
tab and under the HSL tab I'll take the
H row and slide that over to the left to
make that a little more Orange maybe
about that much then I'll come over to
the L column and slide that over to the
left as well just a little bit just to
darken that up and then we'll go to the
edit pads by nodes tool right here and
I'm gonna click and drag over there use
two nodes and you know what let me get
rid of that you know what let's go back
to the Select tool and let's lower that
beneath the yellow copy so let's click
on the the Y button this is lower
selection one step two put it beneath
the yellow copy and then we'll go back
to the edit pads by nodes tool and then
click and drag over those two nodes and
we're gonna take these two nodes and
just put these over here up in to the
left a little bit maybe about that much
and then we're gonna add new nodes in
there with those two selected by coming
up to this button that says add insert
new nodes in two selected segments we're
gonna click that once twice and one more
time and that'll be pretty good and so
what I do is I'm gonna click and drag
over these two nodes right here I'm
gonna skip the first two and select
those two right
there and then I'll hold control and
just click-and-drag those two nodes up a
little bit this will be the tab of the
folder and then I'm gonna come up to
this button up here that says show
transformation handles for selected
nodes I'm going to turn that on and
that's going to give us scaling handles
that we can use so I'm gonna zoom in on
that by pressing + on the keyboard and
let me come up here and I'm gonna grab
these arrows first I'm gonna hold ctrl
and shift in the keyboard and then I
take these arrows and pull them out
about that much and that's going to make
the tab of the folder and we'll go back
to the Select tool I'll press one of the
keyboard to zoom back out to a hundred
percent and then I'm gonna take this
yellow rectangle right here and I'll
right-click that and go to duplicate and
let me come down to the color picker and
make that a let me make that a
shade of a crow shade of gray maybe 20%
and then I'll take this and put this up
here maybe right about there then I'll
lower this beneath the yellow copy
yellow yellow lower selection one step
and I'm gonna take this handle pull that
in I take that handle and put this about
right about there we want to leave some
space between that and the yellow one
and then I'll write I'll take this grey
rectangle I'll right-click that and go
to duplicate and I'll turn that white
and then I'll lower that one step
beneath the yellow copy and I'll just
take this and move this down to a bat
over here right about there is pretty
good and then one final step is we could
take this yellow shape right here and we
could right click that and go to
duplicate and we could turn that black
and we can lower this three steps so it
goes beneath the yellow the yellow shape
the white shape and the gray shape so
we'll go one two three and then we'll go
to the edit pads by nodes tool and click
and drag over those top nodes right
there and we can we can turn this off
now that show transformation handles we
could turn that off so that doesn't get
in our way and we just take these top
two nose and just shift this over here
maybe about that much
and then go back to the select tool and
bring the opacity of that down maybe to
about 25% and we can click over this
click and drag over the entire graphic
and group it together and then click it
again to get the rotation handles and
then I'm gonna hold ctrl on the keyboard
to take this side handle right here and
just bring that up one step and then
I'll hold ctrl and shift and scale this
end and there you have it that's our our
folder icon if you want you could take
the rectangle tool and give this a
background so I should have click and
drag over that bring the opacity of that
up I'll make this maybe now I won't use
that I'll use maybe like green or blue
or something maybe a dull shade of blue
like that we'll go back to the Select
tool lower this to the bottom and there
you have it there's our very simple
folder icon using Inkscape so if you
