After Effects Tutorial: Elegant Logo Animation in After Effects - No Plugins Video Lecture | Motion Graphics: Master the Art - Graphic Design

hey guys what's up and Nikhil from
douches calm and welcome to this
brand-new After Effects tutorial into
this video I'm gonna show you guys how
to create this really interesting kind
of a photo sliding logo revealed in
After Effects which is inspired from one
of the video hive template to which I'll
provide the link in the description
below now if you guys want to know how
this particular logo was created and
make sure to check out mark from
gigantic YouTube channel he has some
amazing talent he will show you guys the
complete process of creating this logo
from scratch in Adobe Illustrator so
make sure to check it out the link will
be down in the description below so
without any further ado let's get
straight into the video and get started
alright so here we are in After Effects
let's start by creating a new
composition let's rename this to mein
kampf 1920 new 1080 60 frames 10 seconds
should be good and hit OK
now let's create one more composition
which is gonna be our media placeholder
we can drag in your videos or footages
or videos or photos whatever that you
want
so let's rename this to media underscore
o1 head okay and then let's go into the
medium composition and let's create a
shape here so I'm going to select the
rectangular tool and make sure you don't
have any stroke we need just a fill and
from the center I'm gonna hold ctrl and
shift at the same time to create a
square just like that and align it in
the center just like so let's go into a
rectangle properties rectangle path 1
unlink this and let's set this to 900
and for this one I'm gonna go with
actually I said I'm gonna set both of
them with 900 so we don't need to unlink
it actually so I think this is looking
pretty good let's select the rectangle 1
and hit ctrl D to duplicate it so let's
put the rectangular two rectangle 2
below the rectangle 1 and let's go into
rectangle path and let's set this to
maybe 850 or something yeah that looks
good and I wanna increase the roundness
a little bit just like so maybe 50 all
right and let's select the contents and
add a much part again okay and let's set
this to subtract oh that is what going
for pretty nice then what I can do is
let's actually drag in a one more
composition and this is gonna be our
placeholder com
and the school or one cause we will be
creating five copies of this so we
didn't we don't we need to actually
rename it to you know one disco one two
so we can you know know what our
compositions are alright so pretty
quickly I'm going to create some folders
just to be a bit organized so let's
rename this to media and we can drag in
our media composition into the media
folder and for the placeholder I can
just quit on the folder let's rename is
to place folder and put the placeholder
composition right over here
alright then into the placeholder I'm
gonna drag in some images actually one
image so let's drag it in and scale this
up just like so and into the media
composition I'm gonna drag in the
placeholder one composition just like so
and then what we can do is we can either
scale this down just to fit our comp not
the comp actually the shape that we
created or I can just create a mask so
I'm gonna select the composition and
take the rectangular tool and I'm going
to create a mask just like so so now
what we have is we can actually go into
the placeholder and we can you know drag
it left and right depending on what
image that I want to reveal it into the
box or the photo frame you can see so I
think this is looking pretty good maybe
a bit more just like so I think this is
looking pretty good you can also scale
it down you know do some crazy stuff so
yeah that is looking pretty good let's
go into the main comp and let's actually
put in a background and for the
background I'm going to use a texture so
let's go right over here and I'm going
to use the texture maybe this wooden
table and the project file will be
provided to you guys the project file
the link to the project file will be in
the description down below you can just

guys so yeah
let's put the wooden table just like
that and also now scale this up a bit so
hit s scale this up also I'm gonna yep
let's leave it just just like that for
now and let's call this B G for
background alright and yeah I think that
is all not all actually so let's go and
drop the media composition right over
here so now you can see we have
something like that and then what we
need to do is skill is down actually a
bit to I guess maybe I'll go at 75 or
maybe 65 let's see yup I think 65 looks
good so let's go one second and I'm
gonna actually make it 3d or actually we
don't need to actually make it 3d so I'm
gonna hit R to bring up the rotation
properties and create a keyframe and
related to the position or in a way that
we want let's hit P for the position
create a keyframe hit you so you can see
just the keyframes that we created go
back in time and then I'm gonna drag
this right over your just like that out
of the frame and right over here I'm
gonna just rotate it just like so so now
we have something like this pretty
simple right so let's select the
keyframes hit f9 to is easy to go into
graph editor and if your graph editor
doesn't look like this right click and
make sure you're walking in the Edit
speed graph and not in the Edit value
graph so let's select this points and
drag this handle holding shift to the
left just like that select this and drag
this handle up it just like so so now we
have something like this as you can see
but I think it's a bit too fast so I
want to drag this two keyframes to two
seconds maybe
and yep I think this is looking pretty
nice now I think it's a bit too much
into the center so I'm gonna place it
right over you so we have something like
this pretty simple so now what I'm going
to do is to duplicate it what I can do
is actually I can you know go into the
media and the placeholder and duplicate
it again and again but to make things a
bit you know easier or quicker I'm going
to use a free script so let's go into
Windows and let's go into comp
duplicator true comp duplicator which i
guess is this free script I'm not really
sure about it but whatever it is I'm
gonna provide the link in the
description so I can go and download it
so now we have four copies so I want
five copies totally so I'm set this to
four and all the settings I'm just gonna
leave it at default and also I'm gonna
select the media comp and then I'm gonna
select duplicate so I'm gonna click
duplicate and there we have it
alright so let's drag in the rest of the
four media compositions right over here
and now we need to actually scale them
down first let's say this 260 I and now
what I'm going to do is select all the
placeholders and I will click to open
them up and then all I need to do is
just replace the images with a different
image so let's go into the images and
let's try this one right over here scale
this up just like so and delete this and
I'm gonna do the same thing for the rest
of the images
just like so hit s by the way to bring
down scale properties oh this one now
let's go into the main comp and let's
animate them as well and one more thing
that I forgot to do we can do it later
on as well we'll just you know put on
some drop shadow to make it look more
interesting and some you know optical
flares maybe
and let's see what we can do to improve
the see all right so let's first of all
complete the animation then we can head
out head over to the color correction
part so let's go to two seconds and what
I'm going to do is actually I'm in
opposition the images are the photos in
the way I want so is something like that
maybe like this and for this one I put
it somewhere around there let's select
all the comp and hit P create a keyframe
oh we need two triangles keep in mind oh
yeah I'm gonna exclude this select just
the score and create a keyframe and hit
our create a keyframe hit you so we can
see just the keyframes you know and then
I'm gonna select this one I'm gonna
place it and rotate it in the way I
wanted to look I want it to be like this
one and place it in the positions of
like that rotated something like so
just a pretty random process actually
I'm pleased with somewhere around there
maybe and played it
she put this on top just like that and
related just like so and for the first
one and put it around there so something
like that
and let's rotate it in a different
direction just like so and try to cover
up the center part of the wood texture
alright so this is looking pretty good
let's go back in time and let's select
this one and I'm gonna put it hope I
select this and drag it to the top this
one and drag it to the bottom this one
right over here
select this one and just drag it right
over you all right then I'm gonna rotate
it into the different direction so I'm
gonna set this to minus 12
set this to 20 or 19 set this to 9 and 6
to 7 and yep that is what we are going
for and the last thing is select all the
keyframes again hit f9 d bzees them go
to graph editor select this keyframes
drag this handle to the to the left drag
this handles as well just like so so now
we have this really nice animation as
you can see and you can any time go and
you know change the direction or the
position of the images depending on your
personal preference
like the cinema present somewhere around
there so yup I think these are looking
pretty nice okay so hit ctrl a and hit u
so we can close all the you know
properties we have something like that
and let's go ahead actually and create a
new adjustment layer and this is gonna
be our CC spotlight to create have a
light effect do you make our scene look
more interesting and drag the CC
spotlight effect which is by the way an
inbuilt effect which I don't really use
much but it's a really cool effect so
what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna place
this one drag this right here to the top
left really far maybe something like
that and let's increase the height to
around 70 and let's change the cone
angle to maybe a bit just like so and
increase the intensity or bring down the
intensity 30 to 5 and I think this is
looking pretty good and for the edge
softness I'm gonna put it all the way up
200 so now I can see before and after we
get this really nice kind of a light
effect onto the complete scene which is
looking pretty interesting to me
alright so one more thing that I'm gonna
do pretty quick is add some drop shadows
to our images just to make them look
more interesting alright so
let's add a drop shadow and for the
intensity I can actually I'm gonna just
solo this up so you can see more
properly so for the intensity let's
opacity actually let's set this down to
35 and increase the distance really high
maybe something like 50 and for the H
softness let's go to 50 maybe yeah this
is looking actually pretty nice we have
distance I'll bring it down a bit maybe
40 or something okay pretty nice
let's select or copy the effect hit ctrl
C select the rest of the layers I hit
control V let's run solve this up and
then we have it as you can see we have a
really nice drop shadow just to give
that really nice and organic look pretty
cool then what I can do is actually use
a let's close them down actually and go
into assets assets actually always I am
a drag and drop in a light leak on the
top and set the blending mode to screen
just to make a scene look more you know
organic you can see looking pretty good
now it's a pretty stiff scene so to make
it look more interesting what I can do
is create a new adjustment layer and
let's rename it to t4 transform and add
a transform to this so we can add some
wiggle onto the you know the position
actually
so let's hold alt and click on the
position stopwatch and let's pack some
bagel to this really minimal so 2 may be
2 comma 8 and close parentheses so we
have a little bit of you know camera
shake effect kind of thing which is
actually looking pretty nice as you can
see and then I'm gonna create one more
new adjustment layer and let's do some
curves adjustment to this just to you
know make the colors pop out a bit just
a touch also select this media
compositions and turn off the most turn
on the motion blur see it's looking
really nice and then what I can do is
let's go to 3 seconds and let's hit you
so we can see just the keyframes select
this key frames and hit ctrl-c ctrl-v
select this keyframe set ctrl-c ctrl-v
and the same for the rest of them so C
control V control C control V control C
control V and then what I'm gonna do is
I'm gonna select all the keyframes right
click go to keyframe assistant and time
reverse keyframes so now we have the
reverse animation as well and what I
want to do is as the animation proceeds
I want the logo to get you know revealed
so only to do all you need to do is just
drop in the logo in the back so let's go
into the logo folder and drag in and
drop in logo now it's in the back just
like that actually my skill is down a
bit to maybe 80 and add a drop shadow
this
just like so your softness a bit little
there you have it in yellow sorry 285
something so they we have a really nice
animation and I think this is looking
pretty nice pretty cool and to add a bit
more you know depth into the scene I can
also add a particles overlay so I can
just drag and drop it on the top maybe
right oh yeah just below the spotlight
now we have this very nice scene as you
can see and the last thing that I'm
going to add is a new adjustment layer
and add some glow to this so let's add a
glow increase the radius a lot just like
so and bring down bring up the threshold
really like that maybe something like 95
or something because I want a very
minimal glow maybe opacity 2.6 and let's
see we have and I think let's see before
and after you can see the difference
looking really nice I think it's a bit
too much maybe point 4 or something
really minimum
you can also increase the drop-shot
amount for the logo just to make it look
more interesting you know something like
that so you can keep it something like
that and I think this is looking pretty
cool
Oh what I can actually do is I can go to
maybe five seconds and bring this down
just like so and create a keyframe let's
go to six second and just increase the
top just like so and let's hit you
select the keyframes and hit f9 so now
we have a really nice and simple drop
shot of animation happening in the back
which I think looks pretty interesting
yep maybe a bit more forward in time so
so let's see our complete oh one more
thing is let's go right over here and
crop the logo and crop it let's hold alt
and click on Open bracket and they be
happy
so now we should have something like
this now you can of course use videos as
well to you know make your scene look
more interesting I'm just gonna use the
images for this tutorial so let's see
your complete preview yep I think this
is looking very nice and I'm pretty
happy with the overall result so yep
