so how do you get your YouTube channel
noticed we're gonna talk about that in
this video

and today we're gonna be talking about
how to get your YouTube channel notice
and we just want to go through a list of
strategies first and foremost I think
there's some good questions to ask
yep definitely and so good questions
help you get good answers right the
first question is who is your audience
and what kind of videos do they want to
see exactly you know what I like to say
is put yourself in the seat of the
person searching for the type of content
that you're creating you know what are
they typing what are they looking for
because that's gonna help you determine
the answers for this question absolutely
and then the second question to ask is
like you said what are people typing in
to search and that leaves me to really
the first strategy so if you're trying
to get your channel noticed you're
trying to get more discover
discoverability people discovering your
channel the number one thing I believe
you can do is ranked videos and that
means that if you can show up on the
other side of search terms then you are
gonna constantly be getting traffic to
your video not because you put a new
video out in your subscribers side
not because you tweeted to a few
followers and one person clicked on the
video but because people are coming on
the other side of search a good example
is your cooking channel now constant new
people are discovering it because of
your guacamole video exactly so when
people type in guacamole and guacamole
recipe your video’s ranked evergreen
content just is always useful to people
no matter if you find it today or five
years down the road yep absolutely so

second thing for how to get your channel
notice is collaborations in fact it's
probably one of my favorite ways to get
your channel notice now obviously when
you're collaborating ideally you want to
work with somebody that's got a lot more
viewership
a lot more subscribers because
obviously it could help you gain some
more subscribers but even collaborating
with people at the same level as you are
in fact sometimes that's easier to get
done because there's a fair trade-off
there that's gonna be a great way to get
in front of a new audience for yourself
and potentially get your content that
you're creating to get noticed
absolutely and you know Gary Vaynerchuk
has a cool video or idea and it's called
one is greater than zero and what's
crazy is that Gary Vaynerchuk New York
Times bestseller huge YouTube channel
all this other stuff his willingness to
collaborate with even like a vlog or
whatever so here's the thing to develop
momentum start as soon as possible just
collaborate even if you just get one new
subscriber that falls in love with your
content that's the kind of hustle that
it takes yeah and so start collaborate
and then a little tip on that is when
are you doing
don't hesitate to ask the person to
promote it because sometimes they forget
and you're like oh should I ask them
like a Facebook message a tweet a text
and email hey the video is out would you
mind tweeting it would you mind promoting
it they'll be like oh yeah totally
but they might not do that if you don't
ask so just go for the ask the worst
thing they could say is no number three
social media driving traffic to your
channel now social media everyone's
always like hey how do I grow my social
media channels does it work the truth is
social media sometimes you know with if
you have zero Twitter Twitter followers
and your tweet it's not necessarily
people are gonna find your channel but
social media is a great tool to drive
traffic to your channel so if you're
building platforms elsewhere adding
value on Pinterest Twitter Facebook
Instagram at times good example would be
and I don't like to go for the ask a lot
to move people off of a platform but
we just did this skydiving project this
week for dance ember and all that kind
of stuff and then I released a just my
own edit of a video on my channel and so
what I did is I put it on Instagram I
put a short version that said hey to
watch the full version go to YouTube and
the link to that video is in my bio now
a lot of times what I'll do is I'll put
a URL shortener like bitly to see how
many people will click no link to kind
of test it no it's not a ton I mean
that's the I think the thing to be
honest about social media if you tweet
it
you know even if you put on Facebook
getting traffic from one platform to
another platform usually is not a lot of
traffic but it does help so that is one
way to get your channel notice somebody
who doesn't even know it exists might
discover it because of social media
yeah and the thing about social media
and we're talking like Twitter Facebook
even Instagram compared to youtube or
any other video platform you have small
tribes of people and when we say tribes
you mean we have people that are all
interested in similar content and it's
easier to connect with those groups of
people outside of YouTube for example
Facebook right like if you're into
cooking you might like a page that talks
about a lot of cooking right and getting
in front of those audiences is gonna be
easier to get your content if it's
similar content to be seen by those
people versus the thing about YouTube
right YouTube is like the ocean okay and
there's a lot of eyeballs there's a lot
of people there but getting to the
smaller the bays you know the lakes the
you know the smaller groups of people
who are gonna be super interested in
what you're putting out there what do
you think about that absolutely yeah
it's that hustling in the trenches
sometimes I think we're always trying to
hit a grand slam man I'm good with a
base hit you know you know I just want
to get a little bit of traction and so
that is a good one in fact that's how
almost every channel gets found it's
very rare but it leads us into answer
number four viral videos yeah you know
it's not personally I don't suggest
viral videos as a focus because it's not
easy to do viral in fact your viral now
is like 10 20 you know plus million
views but maybe Sean can go into depth
about what he means but this is a thing
when you make a viral video it's a huge
opportunity not only to be seen but to
capture that audience to potentially be
subscribers absolutely and the thing
with the viral bit of video strategy is
to be honest we are always really trying
thinking about strategizing how to make
them but you cannot really you cannot
plan a viral video no all you can do is add
all the elements of a viral video which
we have some content that we'll be
releasing on that
like maybe the 20 distinctions yeah
that's a great video and you try to do
all those you still it's no guarantee
but your friends Sam and Nia
they had a viral video and they knew
great example of logging yes Casey nice
Niestat just released one word he kind
of it hasn't really gone viral but
certain videos one example is I did this
video with um with Jeff Moore's and his
family and honestly it was around
beyblades yeah and I was just vlogging
and I got an idea that like this is
funny I don't know about this and it was
just my learning process and that video
on Sean thinks continues to be one of
the most viewed videos yeah but one of
the things I did was I did all the best
practices yeah this is stuff we talked
about in our guide i titled it good I
edited a certain way and now it's the
one who you know when we're talking
about viral it's kind of like ranked
it's just that video that keeps getting
views keeps growing and and and just a
few quick tips on that you're usually
are gonna do it around something
cultural so beyblades has its own tribe
i did not realize that i'd be tapping
into this audience now and search of all
these things that i didn't know so no
one's interested necessarily in you or
me they don't know us
yeah but they're interested in maybe an
event you went to in your perspective so
you went to Coachella and you made a
funny video about it they're interested
in a product I've got a shin ramen video
I don't know that it was gonna be so big
on shin ramen but obviously shin ramen
has its own micro kind of culture so
another thing that makes a video go
viral is what's relevant Casey Neistat's
he's great at understanding what is
relevant what people are really
interested in and he makes a video
previous to it like hitting its peak the
gold Apple watch was a big one right
yeah or even the iPhone videos that he
puts out so that's another tip to
pursuing a viral video even though we
wouldn't suggest that being your
everyday thing and every video that we
create we still think how could this go
viral and what are the elements that we
need to add as well as probably more
important than that the follow up the
call to actions the best practices and
then lastly number five you can't forget
this content is king it all comes back
to creating great content yeah and we
wanted
to say this first because it's so
obvious but the reason we've saved it
for last is because if you're creating
great content it's gonna affect all
these other things that we suggested
okay if you're creating great content
it's gonna have a higher potential to go
viral if you're creating great content
someone's gonna want to collaborate with
you because you have cool stuff even if
you don't have as many subscribers or
followers as them right you're going and
the thing about great content is that
it's something that you can just always
be working on so you might say how can I
get it better just work on all the small
things work on making your video better
making your lighting better making your
on-camera presence better being inspired
by what you're reading what you're
watching other YouTube channels making
idea journal there's so many different
ways but how can you work on your
content level up your content make it
better how can it be more engaging more
funny yeah more entertaining more
energetic and formative more education
educate educational all those
things are so good for making awesome
