Side by Side Effect in iMovie 10.0.3 | Tutorial 42 Video Lecture | iMovie Mac: Basics to Advanced - Professional Skills

welcome to nono films today we'll be
continuing our iMovie tutorials and
let's jump right in
in this tutorial actually really
covering something that I've actually
been asked several times I know I guess
I know I just realized I haven't really
covered it in a full-on tutorial and so
it's gonna be the side-by-side feature
and how to do that but also I've also
been notified
several times that I tend to go way too
fast or talk way too faster and
materials so I'm gonna try as best I can
to slow down and explain everything
deeply and well thoroughly that way
everything is understandable but for now
let's just jump right in it's very
simple it's just like picture and
picture that we've always been into been
doing um it's you're gonna find that
option underneath picture and picture
options so we have our footage here for
under our project iMovie tutorials and
within the project which I have open now
we have the small clip 33 second clip
and what we're gonna do first the first
thing is under adjustments top right
hand corner or right over here you'll be
able to see that you have these options
here when you select the clip you can
you'll have access to these adjustments
and there's one that we're looking here
we're looking for here that is not
available until you actually drag
another clip on top of your original
clip so I'm going to close the
adjustments tab and I'm going to select
my clip as you can see it's just a
standard clip what we're gonna do is
we're gonna drag another of basically
the same clip since I don't have any
additional footage here and we got
dragged let's say just this let's do 5
seconds 5 seconds right here looks like
I'm talking here 5 seconds and I'm gonna
drag it straight on the top of my
original footage if it loads or day I
don't think I mean selected it okay
there we go so I'm gonna drag get red
over here and I'm actually gonna mute it
just I don't the noise on it interrupt
me so I don't know if you saw up
I just like to clip and then I dragged
and dropped it straight on top of my
clip now we have this one clip on top of
the other not meaning like when your
goes to this apart right now
it'll go straight to this clip for now
now what we're going to do is we're
gonna go straight you adjustments and
now you'll have this extra option here
which is set
- cutaway meaning it's gonna take away
this entire portion of the clip starting
away I mean this entire portion of the
clip right here and it's gonna replace
it with this and we don't want that what
we're going would do is we want the
side-by-side like I said we've been
doing picture-in-picture do side by side
if you take a look at this now we have
this clip here I believe it's on the
right hand side here and then we also
have the bottom portion that's that that
our second clip is on top of is on the
left hand side here and you can actually
swap these if you don't like both side
it's on go to left or right and this is
actually very common especially if
you're doing like two of you you want to
do one of you on this side one you on
this side and both them interacting with
each other that's very common done with
the side by side feature also that the
only way you need to do this though is
your camera when you're recording has to
be still like a tripod or something and
in one location that way it's a lot
easier for you though that way you don't
see this weird line it will be like as
if it was if there were two of you there
and also there's also a slide feature
here and basically what this is is
having this portion of the clip it's
gonna slide in here if you're doing some
sort of a little effect and I'll show
you that example right here let's play
it from here like this here I thought up
muted the volume let's play that clip
again you'll see this and here you have
the slide to you - second slide and then
it slides out which is just a cool
feature especially if you want to do
that but on that most people just use
them side by side maybe even the
comparison video you want compare once
someone something else with something
else that's that's also really good
that's what that's we're side by side
feature comes in handy other than that
