hey guys
ampere bringing you another affinity
photo tutorial and in this tutorial
we'll be going over how to do some
simple quick masking now what you're
going to do is come up to the option up
here that says toggle quick mask or you
can hit Q as a simple shortcut now it's
going to create a red overlay over image
right now I have an image of this
alligator now I want to select just the
eye but if I were to use something like
the selection brush the selection brush
would not be able to finally select the
eye or other parts the alligator that I
want selected as it is very similar to
the other parts the alligator and I want
a really refined tool so what I'm going
to do is I'm going to come down and
select the paintbrush tool now what this
is is going to be able to add or
subtract or basically paint on your
selection using a mask this is just a
simple quick mask but what you want to
do is set your brush to white now white
will add back the image to your mask
creating the mask so right here I'm
going to paint on this alligators eye
and you can also change different
aspects of your brush like the hardness
flow opacity you can change many more
settings in more and you can even change
the blend mode up here now this has
added it and if I wanted to go and
refine a little more the black is going
to help me subtract it so what this now
is is the I selected but how do we get
it selected you're gonna have to come
over here to the move tool and select it
now this whole eye is selected
as it is selected you can now come up
something like a new adjustment layer
add-in HSL adjustment and now I can
change the color of the eye of this
alligator now this is useful for things
it's like selecting very fine things
like this eye or something that if I
were to use the selection brush it would
not be able to get because they're so
similar that it wants to add more than
you want masking is very useful for very
fine selections and it's very useful for
just using selections in general so hope
