3-17: Working with Links Video Lecture | WordPress for Beginners - Software Development

hello and welcome back so far we've
covered how to add links into our posts
we've covered how to work with images
videos and audio now we'll learn more
about links but first we'll do a quick
recap on adding and removing links go to
the about me page we created earlier
hover over pages and click on all pages
go ahead and edit about me
scroll to the bottom currently there is
a link to the equipment's page so it
will remove it to remove a link simply
place your cursor within the text
containing the link and then click
remove link
Airlink select the text you want to add
a link to then click insert link
you can choose to link to a particular
URL or you can link to content within
your site we are going to link to the
equipment's page so expand the bottom
half of this panel to see all the
content you can link to if you have a
large number of posts and pages you can
filter the list by using the search box
choose the page into a title then click
Add link
let's preview the page
while text links are useful it's a bit
boring
instead of having text saying check out
my equipment page we can link an image
to the page go back to the WordPress
editor and delete the sentence
we are going to upload and insert an
image go to an media upload files then
select or drag and drop the image
into the metadata then for attachment
display settings we are going to set the
alignment to Center disabled linking and
then select full size
hit insert into page
select the image and click insert link
choose my equipment enter a title and
then click Add link
go ahead and preview the post
we now see an image in when clicked it
takes us to the equipment page
an alternate way to add links to the
image is by choosing custom URL in the
image properties panel by linking this
way though you will need to know the
exact URL of your content as you won't
have a window showing all available
content to link to
update the page to save changes
you don't necessarily have to link to
images in fact you can link to anything
in your media library let's go to the
Travel playlist page
you remember we inserted an audio
playlist into the page but what if your
visitors want to download the tracks and
put it on their playlist as well first
we'll type something along the lines of
click here to download the first track
update the page to save changes
next we'll need to head to the media
library to find the URL of the track we
uploaded we'll go over the media library
in more detail in the next video for now
click media from the left navigation
here you can see a list of all the media
we have uploaded to our WordPress
website click on the track we want to
link to this is the attachment details
window the media will be displayed on
the left side and on the right side is
all the relevant information related to
this particular piece of media the
information we're after is the URL
highlight the entire URL then copy
close this window and go back to the
playlist page
select click here and click insert link
Media on the website will not show up in
the content list as this list only
displays posts and pages so we are going
to fill in the URL instead paste the URL
you copied earlier and then into a title
when finished click Airlink preview the
page
the link is now active and clicking it
will let visitors listen to the track as
well as download the track
let's really hammer home the concept
equipments Paige
we'll insert an image just after the
gallery
place your cursor after the gallery and
then hit enter a few times
let's offer visitors to your site the
option to download the whole equipment
list as a PDF file go up to add media
and upload the image offering the PDF
download
same as before edit the metadata choose
attachment options and hit insert into
page when you are ready
update the page to save changes then go
to the media library
then select the PDF Oh
after the upload is complete click on
the PDF to bring up attachment details
URL and copy exit the window and go back
to the equipment page
scroll down select the image and then
click insert link paste the URL in into
a title this time we want the PDF to
open in a new window so check this box
when you're finished hit add link
go ahead and preview the page
visitors to your website can now access
the PDF version of your equipment list
by clicking on this image
make sure to update the page to save
changes
we have now covered theory block a of
this course which focused on content
creation
next we move into theory block be
focusing on site structure we'll be
learning about the media library
settings and configurations permalinks
widgets seems and more before you move
on though
feel free to practice what you have
learned so far go ahead and create posts
and pages upload media create a gallery
the more you practice the more familiar
