now we are going to read a delightful
little poem called
oh I wish I had looked after my teeth a
poem for class nine CBSE English this
poem has been written by a lady called
Pam iers born in 1947 she is a
celebrated humorous poet news
broadcaster and TV entertainer who has
received an MBE from the Queen of
England in this humorous poem Pam
regrets not having heeded her mother by
eating too much sugar e sticky sweets in
her childhood and also by disregarding
the caution about daily dental care and
oral hygiene he is having to face the
painful consequences now oh I wish I'd
looked after my teeth and spotted the
damages beneath all the Toffees I chewed
and the sweet sticky food oh I wish I'd
looked after my teeth now here a single
sherbet contains six forms of sugar did
you know that and a gob what's a
Gobstopper sticky jaw sweets lollipops
which make your jaws stick together
actually they can they're full of sugar

your teeth so he is instructing the
assistant in there that means in the
hole in the drill fill it with amalgams

stanza 8 how I laughed at my mother's
false teeth as they formed in the waters
beneath but now comes the reckoning it's
me they are beckoning oh I wish I'd
looked after my teeth reckoning means
what to consider now comes the time to
consider and it's me that they are
beckoning beckoning means to call who's
calling
they are calling me because my tooth
have also gone decayed so the poet is
now regretting or having not taken care
of her teeth dear oh what the style of
rhyme is where the first and second
lines rhyme the third and fourth lines
rhyme together and the last line again
rhymes with the first this is called a
limerick and it's a very popular form of
composing poems by people living in a
place called limerick in England they
