about saturation point it is that stage
at which no more solute can be dissolved
into a solution so in this example which
I have taken just now so the four spoons
of salt that is there that defines the
saturation point now this saturation
points depends on a number of factors
for example the temperature and the
pressure of the solution for example
let's say that five as I mentioned that
four spoons of salt in a glass that's
like the maximum that it can dissolve so
after four spoons menu add fifth spoon
of salt it doesn't get dissolved no
matter how much ever you stir it so
let's say for this solution the
saturation point is four tablespoon of
salt so that's it you cannot add more
than that so this defines the saturation
point of this cohesion
so since temperature is one factor which
defines what will be the saturation
point so by changing the temperature of
the solution we can change the
saturation point of the solution as well
now how can we change the temperature of
the solution one simple method is to
heat the solution now let's say you
start heating the same solution now when
you start heating it you add two extra
spoons of water so you add two extra
spoons of water in this case when you
add it the fifth spoon itself it was not
getting resolved but now when you heat
it
the fifth as well as the sixth teaspoon
of salt also get dissolves into it
dissolve into it so that means now what
is the saturation point so now the
saturation point is six teaspoon of salt
because food was already there and on
or that you added two more teaspoons of
salt so basically you could increase the
saturation point by increasing the
temperature of the solution so that
proves that temperature is one important
factor which decides the saturation
point of a solution by increasing the
temperature we can increase the
saturation point so if you increase the
temperature what happens the saturation
point also increases the next factor is
the nature of the substances the
substance which we are adding to water
whether it is sugar or salt or it is
something else so that what kind of
substance are we adding to the water
that order that also depend thats also
decides the saturation point maybe the
saturation point for a glass of water
for in case of salt it could be four
teaspoons of salt but in case of sugar
it might be due teaspoons of sugar for
case of some other substance it might be
ten teaspoons as well so depending upon
substances so we can say that different
substances have different saturation
points so that is also one important
thing so now that we have understood
what exactly is saturation point and
what the saturated solution so do you
think that we will be able to solve the
mystery which we had encountered before
so let's try to troubleshoot now we
found that we had a mixture of sand and
salt by the end of the separation
process the amount of salt that we
recovered was pretty much less than what
it was in the mixture right so that was
our problem statement let's see what
could have gone wrong now the first step
that we did there was with sedimentation
and decantation so we took soil sugar we
took the sand salt mixture and mixed it
with water we found that the salt got
mixed with water that is the soil to get
dissolved in water and the sand settled
down at the bottom so we took the salt
water in a separate container now the
mystery or the problem
occurred at this place itself now since
there is a possibility that the amount
of salt which was present in the mixture
was a lot more than this amount of water
would have dissolved so the amount of
water in this vessel was lesser than the
amount of salt which was present there
so the water could not suit the
saturation level the water dissolved the
salt but beyond that it couldn't
dissolve the salt so that extra amount
of salt remained mixed with the sand so
when we did this separation process what
happened now this sediment which was
present here which we presumed to be
only sand this also contained some
amount of salt that is the extra salt
which could not have been dissolved to
by the water because the this water
which contains salt it had already
reached its saturation level so it had
already reached the saturation level so
it could not dissolve the extra amount
of salt and that salt remained mixed
with the sand and it it never got
separated from the sand and later in the
second step when we did the evaporation
process we did it with this water so
this salt water was evaporated so the
amount of salt which we received here
was less because some amount of salt is
already been missing at the first step
itself so this entire problem arose
because the amount of salt which was
present was a lot more so now the
question is what could have been the
solution so what we could have done
better so that the real amount of salt
would have been recovered so in that
case we could never add more amount of
water because when you increase the
amount of water it would be able to
dissolve more salt so when you have more
salt you need more water to dissolve
that salt so one solution could have
been to use more water in the first step
itself when we put the sand salt mixture
in water so that cane the amount of
water should have been more that could
have been one possibility the other
possibility
would have been that when we added the
sand salt mixture to water that

water a little so that the saturation
point of water increases so that it
could deserve a little more sand so that
those are some of the ways by which we
could have recovered more amount of salt

some salt was lost with the sand so this
salt could not get dissolved in water so
