| 1. What is the role of the executive in the Union and State governments? |  |
Ans. The executive in the Union government is responsible for the implementation of laws and policies at the national level. It is headed by the President of India, who is the ceremonial head of the state. The Prime Minister, along with the Council of Ministers, forms the real executive power in the Union government. Similarly, in the State governments, the Governor is the head of the executive, and the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers exercise the executive powers at the state level.

Ans. The President of India is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the elected members of both houses of Parliament and the State Legislative Assemblies. The Governors of the States are appointed by the President on the advice of the Union Council of Ministers.

Ans. The President of India holds office for a term of five years. However, the President can be re-elected for any number of terms. The Governors of the States hold office at the pleasure of the President, which means they can be removed or transferred by the President before the completion of their term.

Ans. To be eligible for the office of President of India, a person must be a citizen of India, must have completed 35 years of age, and must be qualified for election as a member of the Lok Sabha (the lower house of Parliament).

Ans. To be eligible for the office of Governor in India, a person must be a citizen of India, must have completed 35 years of age, and must not hold any office of profit under the Union or State government.
