India’s retail inflation in April 2022 surged to 7.79 per cent in April, largely driven by rising fuel and food prices, touching its highest point in last eight years.
The previous high was recorded at 8.33 per cent in May 2014. 6.95 per cent inflation is recorded in the month of March. Food inflation accounted for nearly half the consumer price index (CPI) basket, reached high in April. Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) upper tolerance limit for retail inflation is 6 %.

John Lee was elected as Hong Kong’s next leader by an Election committee who cast their votes in a secret ballot. The committee included around 1,500 largely pro-Beijing members.
Lee, who was formerly Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary, will begin his five-year term replacing outgoing Chief Executive Carrie Lam. Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China which returned to Chinese rule in 1997 from the UK.

Veteran architect Balkrishna Doshi was conferred the prestigious Royal Gold Medal 2022, one of the world’s highest honours for architecture, awarded by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
The 94-year-old architect is the only one from India. He is also the first to receive both the Royal Gold Medal and the Pritzker Architecture Prize, referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture.

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), Government of India and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
As per the MoU, UNDP will provide technical support towards the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) scheme & Kisan Credit Card – Modified Interest Subvention Scheme. UNDP has been providing technical assistance for the last 4 years.

India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) between Delhi and Meerut, is being designed by global mobility provider Alstom in Hyderabad and manufactured in Savli, Gujarat.
The first trainset of the system was handed over to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Phase 1. India’s first semi high-speed regional train can move passengers at 180 km/hour.

Tamil Nadu has become the first state in the country to offer breakfast in government schools, along with the mid-day meal.
Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the breakfast scheme for students studying in Classes 1 to 5 in the state. The special nutritional scheme is based on a public health study by the government on the malnourished children in the state. Tamil Nadu was also a pioneer of the midday meal scheme.

India has been unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-2024.
Commission on Elections, Philippines was the previous chair of AAEA. Currently, 20 Asian Election Management Bodies (EMB) are members of AAEA and Election Commission of India (ECI) is a founder member of the EMB of AAEA. The UK recently released some competition rules for big tech companies like Google and Facebook, missing which will attract huge fines from the country.
UK established Digital Markets Unit (DMU) to curb authority of big tech companies over news publishers. It was announced that DMU will be given powers to curb the predatory practices of some firms. The regulator will have the power to fine companies up to 10% of their global turnover if they fail to comply.

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd first became the first Indian company to cross USD 100 billion annual revenue.
For the fiscal 2021-22, Reliance reported a net profit of ₹60,705 crore on a revenue of ₹7.92 lakh crore (USD 102 billion). The earnings rose due to the high oil refining margins, growth in telecom and digital services and strong retail business. Rise in broadband subscribers, online retail and new energy investment are also the reasons for rise in earnings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed ‘Utkarsh Samaroh’ event held at Bharuch in Gujarat. It was organized to mark the celebration of 100 percent saturation of four key schemes of the state government in the district.
Over 12000 beneficiaries were identified across the four schemes, which include Ganga Swaroopa Aarthik Sahay Yojana, Indira Gandhi Vrudh Sahay Yojana, Niradhar Vrudh Aarthik Sahay Yojana and Rashtriya Kutumb Sahay Yojana.

India’s biggest-ever initial public offering (IPO), by Life Insurance Corp (LIC), has been fully booked under all categories.
The portion set for policyholders was booked 6.11 times, employees by 4.39 times, retail investors by 1.99 times, non-institutional investors by 2.91 times and qualified institutional buyers (QIB) by 2.83 times. The government will raise ₹ 21,000 crore from selling a 3.5 per cent stake in the country’s top insurer. This is only a third of the original target fixed by the government.

The Union Cabinet has approved USD 808 million (₹6,062.45 crore) for a new scheme ‘Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance’ (RAMP).
The new scheme assisted by the World Bank is expected to commence in the financial year of 2022-23. It aims to improve access to market and credit of the MSMEs. It focuses on strengthening institutions and governance of the MSME programme, and support to market access and access to finance.

India and Australia signed an Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (IndAus ECTA). It seeks to provide -duty access to 96 per cent of India’s exports to Australia.
The exports include engineering goods, gems and jewellery, textiles, apparel and leather. The pact is expected to boost bilateral trade in goods and services to USD 45-50 billion over five years and generate over one million jobs in India.

Konkan Railway has recently completed 100 per cent electrification across the zone and it has set new benchmarks for sustainable development.
The Konkan Railway has completed the electrification work on its complete 741 km long route between Roha in Maharashtra and Thokur in Karnataka. The cost of this electrification project is Rs 1287 crore.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has declared a nationwide public emergency amidst protests over the worst economic crisis in the island nation.
The special gazette notification declared a public emergency in Sri Lanka with immediate effect from April 1. The residents are facing shortages in fuel, cooking gas, essentials in short supply and long hours of power cuts.

Ministry of Finance oversees the ‘Stand Up India Scheme’, which aims to promote entrepreneurship among women, Scheduled Castes (SC) & Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories, to help them in starting a Greenfield enterprise.
The scheme has completed six years and loans worth more than ₹30,160 crore have been sanctioned in the last six years. Over 1.33 lakh new entrepreneurs have been facilitated and more than 1 lakh women promoters have benefitted from this Scheme during the last six years.

Kaziranga National Park is a protected area in Assam, spread along the Brahmaputra River. The National Park has successfully completed 14th Rhino Census in 2022.
There was increase of 200 one-horned rhinoceros from the 2018 figures even though 400 deaths were recorded mainly due to natural causes. With 903 females, 750 males, juvenile category and calves, the total population of one-horned rhinos is 2,613.

‘Sajibu Nongma Panba’ is a traditional festival for the followers of the Sanamahism religion in Manipur, as a Lunar New Year.
The day is mostly observed on the first day of the lunar month of Sajibu.  Also known as Meetei Cheiraoba or Sajibu Cheiraoba, the festival is celebrated by the Meitei people, one of the largest ethnic communities in Manipur.

Gangaur Festival is predominantly celebrated in the state of Rajasthan. Rajasthan Tourism Department organised the festival after two years gap due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The festival commenced on April 3 and continues for 18 days. The Tourism Department of the state has made special arrangements to make the foreign tourists aware of the culture of the state.

Formula: A and B together can do a work in x days, B and C together in y days, while C and A together in z days. If they all work together, the work will be completed in: (2xyz)/( xy+yz+zx)

In the above given problem 'x' = 8 days, 'y' = 6 days and 'z' = 10 days.

Substituting the values x, y and z in the formula, If they all work together, the work will be completed in : (2 * 8 * 6 * 10)/((8*6)+(6*10)+(10*8))

⇒ 960/(48+60+80) = 960/188 = 240/47 days

Formula: If M1 persons can do a piece of work in D1 days for h1 hours and M2 persons can do the same piece of work in D2 days for h2 hours,

then: M1D1h1 = M2D2h2.

In the above given problem M1=15 men, D1=20 days, h1=8 hours, M2=20 men, D2= 12 days. Substituting the above values in the formula, we get

⇒ 15 * 20 * 8 = 20 * 12 * h2;

⇒ 2400 = 240 * h2; h2 = 10 hours

Therefore, 10 hrs a day should 20 men take to complete the same work in 12 days.

If A can do a work in 'x' days and A + B can do the same work in 'y' days, then the number of days required to complete the work if B works alone is given by the formula: ( x * y)/(x-y).

Aman alone takes 5 days (i.e x) to complete a piece of work and along with his son he can complete same of piece of work in 3 days(i.e y).

Therefore, his son alone takes ( x * y)/(x-y) days to complete the same piece of work.

By substituting the given values in formula, his so will take (5 * 3)/(5-3) = 15/2 = 7.5 days.

• Tank filled in one hour when the taps A and B are open = (1/12)+(1/15)= 9/60= 3/20.

• Tank filled in one hour when the taps A and C are open = (1/12) + (1/20) = 8/60 = 2/15

• Therefore, part of the tank filled in two hours = (3/20) + (2/15) = 17/60.

• Part filled in 6 hours = ( 17/60) * 3 = 51/60

• Remaining part = 9/60 = 3/20

After 6 hours Now it is (A+B)' s turn

• Time taken by the A+B to fill 3/20 part = 1 hour

• Therefore, total time taken = 6+1 = 7 hours
