FAQs on NCERT Solutions Class 12 Maths Chapter 3 - Matrices

1. What are matrices?
Ans. Matrices are rectangular arrays of numbers or symbols arranged in rows and columns. They are commonly used in mathematics and various applications such as computer graphics, physics, and economics.
2. How to represent a matrix?
Ans. A matrix is represented using square brackets [], where the numbers or symbols are arranged in rows and columns. For example, a 2x3 matrix can be represented as: [1 2 3] [4 5 6]
3. What is the order of a matrix?
Ans. The order of a matrix is determined by the number of rows and columns it has. For example, a matrix with 3 rows and 4 columns has an order of 3x4.
4. How to perform addition and subtraction of matrices?
Ans. To add or subtract two matrices, their dimensions must be the same. The corresponding elements of the matrices are added or subtracted to get the resulting matrix. For example, to add two matrices A and B: A = [1 2] [3 4] B = [5 6] [7 8] A + B = [1+5 2+6] [3+7 4+8] = [6 8] [10 12]
5. How to multiply matrices?
Ans. Matrix multiplication is only possible when the number of columns in the first matrix is equal to the number of rows in the second matrix. The resulting matrix will have the number of rows from the first matrix and the number of columns from the second matrix. The multiplication is performed by multiplying the corresponding elements of the rows and columns and summing them up.
