3. Aren’t we confusing IG with Development?
• Not exactly. Inclusive Growth and development point to similar ideas.
•
Which is nothing but of not leaving anyone behind as the nation or a society or an economy march on.
• That is, the fruits of progress are shared by all.
But we have been doing all this since our First 5 Year Plan, No?
•
Though India, through various 5-Year Plans and otherwise, attempted to grow by including every
section of society, yet after so many years of independence we could not ful?l our dream of inclusive
growth.
•
The emphasis reached its pinnacle in 11th 5-year Plan which envisaged Inclusive Growth and 12th 5-
Year Plan which went for Faster, sustainable and more Inclusive growth.
4. What is the current scenario like?
•
Two decades of economic growth have made India one of the world’s fastest growing economies,
through the Indian growth story has been one of the highest GDP growth, but it has been mainly due
to growth in service sector.
•
Thus, not all sectors of the economy have grown at relatively same pace resulting in -
?Poverty
?Jobless growth
?Marginal agricultural productivity
?Poor educations outcomes
?Inadequate health services
?Social inequalities
?Rural–Urban divide
?Imbalanced regional development.
5. Types of Disparities Prevalent in India
Income Disparity
• As per Oxfam report, nearly 1% of Indians own staggering 58% of country’s wealth which is higher
than global average of 50%.
• An estimated 90% of Indian workforce is engaged in informal or unorganised Sector, workers in this
sector have virtually no social security.

• Low growth rates and poor public services in poorer states further widen the disparity in
development.
• This can also be attributed to poor governance.
7. Demographic Dividend
As per UN population fund
•
The Economic growth potential that can result from shift in a population age structure, mainly when
the share of working age population (15 – 64), is larger than non working share of population.
8. Poverty
• According to recent Human Development reports of United Nations, almost 30% Indian are still poor.
•
Multidimensional Poverty index (MDI) estimates more than 50% Indian are poor on in one way or
another.
9. Employment
•
India is struggling with the high rate of unemployment.
• Poverty can only be reduced by providing employment to people.
• Majority of Indian population is working in informal sector.
•
Inclusive growth can only be achieved by providing formal work to this workforce.
10. So, What is being done for the same?
• Government has started many initiatives like, MNREGA, National Rural Livelihood Mission to provide
work in rural areas, Skill India Mission to provide industry related skills to workers etc, to reduce the
poverty.
• Issues of lack of proper implementation and lack of awareness in public still persist in India.
•
Government is running schemes like National Apprenticeship promotion Scheme for skill
improvement, PM employment generation program for employment generation.
Environment Protection
•
Inclusive growth can only be achieved if we plan our economical development in consonance with our
environment.
• Due to heavy demand we are over exploiting our natural resources. Though we have many Acts to
protect our environment like Environment Protection Act 1986, Water (Prevention and control of
pollution) Act, 1974 etc.
•
But due to lack of proper implementation our environment is continues degrading.
• Polluted water bodies, Forest degradation, rising temperature, uncontrolled mining activities etc. are
degrading our environment.
•
So, what is being done for the same?
