Tips to help at home! 
? Photo Sequencing - Scramble family photos of your child from birth 
to the present. Challenge them to create a timeline that details a 
significant event for each picture. 
? Which Way to Go? - Get your child to walk a route to a familiar 
destination and draw a map with symbols to represent places on the 
way Older children can sequence the directions in written steps. 
? Kitchen Steps - Prepare a dish with your child. Then, have your 
child repeat, write and draw the recipe steps.  
? I Spy and Why- Play “I Spy” together, but add a simple step. After 
“spying” the objects, ask your child to add uses for the objects.  
? Picture Sequencing - Cut out several pictures from a magazine, 
comic or picture book (ensure pictures have an obvious sequence).  
Encourage your child to arrange them in the correct order and tell a 
story to match.

Sequencing is the process of putting ideas, events and objects in 
a logical order. The ability to sequence events is a key 
comprehension strategy, especially for narrative texts. 
Sequencing requires the reader to recall and order key events and 
details. Knowing the sequence of events is critical in a reader’s understanding
