Ans. To be eligible for UGC NET, a candidate must have a master's degree or its equivalent in a relevant subject from a recognized university or institution. The minimum qualifying marks for general candidates are 55% in the qualifying examination. However, there is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender.

Ans. UGC NET consists of two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is common for all candidates and tests their teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, and general awareness. Paper 2 is based on the subject chosen by the candidate and assesses their in-depth knowledge in that particular subject. Both papers are conducted in a computer-based mode and consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

Ans. The qualifying criteria for UGC NET are as follows:
- For the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Assistant Professor, the candidate must secure the minimum qualifying marks in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- The qualifying marks for general category candidates are 40% aggregate in both papers.
- For reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender), the qualifying marks are 35% aggregate in both papers.
- The final merit list is prepared based on the candidate's performance in both papers, and the top 6% of candidates are declared eligible for Assistant Professorship.
