Ans. The eligibility criteria for UGC NET are as follows:
- For Assistant Professor: Candidates must have a postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) from a recognized university. There is no upper age limit for this category.
- For JRF: Candidates must have a postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) from a recognized university. The maximum age limit for JRF is 30 years (relaxation for reserved categories as per government norms).

Ans. The UGC NET examination consists of two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- Paper 1 is a general paper on teaching and research aptitude, which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. Each question carries 2 marks, and the total duration of the paper is 1 hour.
- Paper 2 is subject-specific, and the number of questions and duration vary depending on the subject chosen by the candidate. It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 2 marks.

However, the validity of the JRF award is limited to 3 years from the date of issue. During this period, the candidate can avail the fellowship for pursuing research or can apply for Assistant Professor positions as well. After the expiry of the 3-year period, the JRF awardees can continue their research but without the fellowship benefits.
