diseases that they suffered from
(2) It provided opportunity to interact with
community
(3) It helped children connect learning with real
life
(4) It enabled children understand data handling
and work together
24. To talk about emergency situations, Priya
asked children’s experiences when they
faced any emergencies. Children narrated
their experiences with fire, electric shock
and road accidents. She asked questions,
assessed their existing understanding and
discussed safety aspects using resources
such as road safety advertisements from
newspapers and also used LPG and electric
bill to discuss safety guidelines on fire and
electric shock, respectively. Which is the
most appropriate approach that Priya
employed?
(1) Humanistic approach
(2) Cognitive approach
(3) Experiential learning approach
(4) Enquiry approach
25. ‘Community’ is an important teaching and
learning resource, because
(1) one can accept all knowledge available in the
community uncritically
(2) it is inexpensive and accessible
(3) elderly people are wise and have time
(4) it provides learning opportunity in real
setting
26. In EVS teaching-learning, linking classroom
learning to life outside school and enriching it
implies
(1) going beyond curriculum
(2) going beyond the textbooks
(3) linking textbooks to global environmental issues
and concerns
(4) whole school approach
27. To class III students, Rama taught that a
father, mother and their children constitute
nuclear family and if grandparents and other
relatives stay along, then it is an extended
family. What do you think of this?
(1) The concept of family has to be taught like this
(2) The definition of a family is incorrect
(3) Rama is insensitive towards her students
(4) The teaching-learning approach is not inclusive

aware and be sensitised
(1) that animal keeping is good source of livelihood
(2) that it is an illegal act
(3) for snake charmers as children do not see them

1. (4) The Mid-day Meal Scheme is a school meal
programme. It was launched by the Government of India
in 1995. It was designed to provide better nutritional
food to school going children of primary and upper
primary classes in government, government aided
schools. It is for children who come empty stomach in
schools.
2. (2) A National Advisory Committee, known as Yash
Pal Committee was set up by the Government in March
1992 under the chairmanship of Prof. Yash Pal. This
committee suggested ways and means to reduce academic
burden on school students to reduce the weight of school
bag and gave the report of ‘Learning without Burden’.
3. (4) The purpose of group learning in Environmental
Studies (EVS) is to inculcate values of cooperation and
working together to enable each child participate actively
and learn.
4. (4) Building as Learning Aid or BALA is a concept
which was originally developed by Vinyas, Centre for
Architectural Research and Design with support from
UNICEF. It is an innovative concept towards qualitative
improvement in education, through developing
child-friendly learning and fun based physical
environment building in school infrastructure.
5. (3) The term Alternative Framework was first time
used by Driver and Easley in 1978. It is widely used to
discuss the opinions of students than a proper concept as
proposed by the educationists and scientists.
6. (4) Women are weaker than men is a gender
stereotype. Women should be communal and avoid
being dominant, men should be independent, masculine
in appearance, avoid being weak, emotional, shy etc are
some examples of gender stereotype.
7. (4) Jammu and Kashmir lies on the North-West
direction and Goa lies on the South-West direction of
Bihar State.
8. (1) Evaporation takes place when a liquid turns into a
gas. The process of evaporation becomes slowest when
both surface area and temperature decrease.
9. (3) The ability to understand relative position of places,
distances and directions is known as mapping skill.
10. (4) National Curriculum Framework, 2000
recommended that Environmental Studies be taught as
an integrated course for the entire primary stage.
11. (2) Shifting cultivation is a type of agriculture in which
a piece of land is used for quite some years until the
fertility is dropped. After some years farmers leave that
land and move to the new plots. This cultivation is mainly
done over a large part of North-East India.
12. (2) To construct dams over rivers have some
advantages, but these also pose great threat to the life of
human and biodiversity too. On one side, they generate
hydroelectricity without causing pollution but on the
other hand, they displace indigenous people from their
river lifelines. They also degrade large tracts of forests
because of their construction.
13. (4) Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are called
Greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases cause the greenhouse
effect. The primary greenhouse gases are water vapour,
carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone.
14. (1,3) Cold Desert is a region which has harsh
climatic conditions. The climate of cold desert of India
can be attributed to two factors. One is its location on
the leeward side of the Himalayas, which makes it a
rain-shadow zone inaccessible to the annual
South-Western monsoon winds which provides a good
amount of rainfall to the rest of the country, thus
creating desert conditions with low levels of
precipitation. Second is its very high elevation (ranging
from 3000 - 5000m). Thus, both these conditions add
coldness in its environment.
15. (3) The Taj Mahal is turning yellow due to pollution
and presence of sulphur dioxide in the air which is
released from Mathura refinery nearby.
16. (4) Golconda Fort lies next to the Mahakali Temple to
the West of Hyderabad. Golconda Fort was first built by
the Kakatiya dynasty, who built this fort as part of their
Western defenses along the lines of the Kondapalli Fort.
17. (3) We are given the density and volume, thus, we
have to rearrange the equation to solve for the mass
Density × Volume = Mass/Volume × Volume Density
× Volume = Mass
15 g/mL × 3 mL = Mass
Thus, the object has a mass of 45 g.
18. (2) A scalar quantity is a one dimensional
measurement of a quantity, like temperature or mass.
19. (2) An object in which no light rays can pass through
is called as opaque.
