process of repeated addition. The symbol ‘ x’ denotes multiplication.
How many blades are there in 4 fans?
1 fan has 3 blades
4 fans will have 3+3+3+3 = 12 blades
It can also be written as 4 times 3 = 12 blades
4 × 3 = 12 blades
• If we multiply a number by 1, we get the same number
6 × 1 = 6 23 × 1 = 23 405 × 1 = 405

ACTIVITY
Make 4 teams of 3 students each. Take three dice. Every team gets a
chance to roll the dice. Note the numbers shown on the top face of the
dice. Multiply these numbers. Product of these three numbers is the score
of the team. Every team will get 10 chances. The team which scores the
most after 10 chances will win.

FAQs on Printable Textbook: Multiplication - Level 2 - Mental Maths - Class 1

1. What is the importance of learning multiplication in early education?
Ans. Learning multiplication in early education is crucial as it forms the foundation for more advanced mathematical concepts. It helps students develop problem-solving skills, enhances their ability to handle larger numbers, and prepares them for future topics such as division, fractions, and algebra. Mastering multiplication also boosts confidence and encourages a positive attitude towards mathematics.
2. How can parents help their children practice multiplication at home?
Ans. Parents can assist their children by incorporating fun and engaging activities like multiplication games, flashcards, or online resources that focus on multiplication skills. They can also create real-life scenarios, such as cooking or shopping, where children can apply multiplication to solve practical problems. Consistent practice through daily routines can reinforce their learning.
3. What are some effective strategies for teaching multiplication to first graders?
Ans. Effective strategies include using visual aids like charts and diagrams to illustrate multiplication concepts, employing hands-on activities like grouping objects (e.g., blocks or stickers) to demonstrate multiplication, and utilizing songs or rhymes to make learning enjoyable. Teaching multiplication in the context of addition can also help students understand the concept better.
4. What are multiplication tables, and why are they important?
Ans. Multiplication tables are structured lists that display the products of pairs of numbers, typically from 1 to 10 or 1 to 12. They are important because they provide a quick reference for students to memorize and recall multiplication facts, which is essential for solving more complex mathematical problems efficiently. Familiarity with multiplication tables enhances overall mathematical fluency.
5. How does mastering multiplication affect a child's overall academic performance?
Ans. Mastering multiplication positively impacts a child's overall academic performance by improving their mathematical skills, which are essential for other subjects like science and economics. A strong grasp of multiplication enables students to tackle more complex mathematical operations with ease, leading to better grades and a greater interest in learning. It also fosters critical thinking and analytical skills applicable across various disciplines.
