There are two atoms, one with configuration 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^1 3p^2 and another with 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 For which of the above the difference between second and third ionisation energies be greater?

As per me the second atom would have greater difference. Because after removing 2 electron from it, it achieves a noble gas configuration. And we know removing a electron from noble state configuration is HARD.
While in first atom ,although after removing 2 electron it have one more electron in its outer most orbital. So it would be still easy to remove it.
SO AFTER CONSIDERING THIS FACTS I WOULD SAY THAT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD IONIZATION ENERGY WOULD BE GREATER IN SECOND ATOM THEN FIRST ATOM.
