**2. Function:**
- **Xylem:** The primary function of xylem is to transport water, minerals, and dissolved nutrients from the roots to the leaves and other parts of the plant. It also provides mechanical support to the plant.

**3. Transportation:**

It occurs through a mechanism called pressure flow, which involves the loading of sugars at the source and unloading at the sink.

**4. Substances transported:**

- **Phloem:** Phloem primarily transports organic compounds, including sugars (such as sucrose), amino acids, hormones, and other signaling molecules.
