To find: Mass of oxygen required to react completely with Al

Balanced Chemical Equation for the reaction between Al and O2:

4 Al + 3 O2 → 2 Al2O3

From the balanced chemical equation, it can be observed that 4 moles of Al reacts with 3 moles of O2 to produce 2 moles of Al2O3.

Molecular mass of Al = 27 g/mol

Molecular mass of O2 = 32 g/mol

Calculation:

Number of moles of Al = Mass of Al / Molecular mass of Al

= 27 g / 27 g/mol

= 1 mole

According to the balanced equation, 4 moles of Al reacts with 3 moles of O2

Therefore, Number of moles of O2 required = (3/4) × 1 mole

= 0.75 mole

Mass of O2 required = Number of moles of O2 × Molecular mass of O2

= 0.75 mole × 32 g/mol

= 24 g

Hence, the mass of oxygen required to react completely with 27 g of Al is 24 g.
