the grandmother's fable and the reception of the grandson was very tou...
The author's grandmother was hardly sentimental, so when the author had decided to go abroad for further studies, he had thought she would be upset. However, there was no talk or any show of emotion on the grandmother's part when she came to see him off at the railway station. Her lips moved in prayer and her mind was lost in prayer, it was evident that at her advanced age, it was not so easy to tell if she was actually upset. She continued to tell the beads of her rosary and then she silently kissed her grandson's forehead. The author cherished that last imprint of physical contact before leaving. When the author came back after five years, she hadn't changed much physically and had continued to function according to her daily routine. But the only sign of change in her emotions was that she did not pray, she collected the women of the neighbourhood, got an old drum and started to sing. It was the first time that the author had seen his grandmother refrain from praying and that brought home the momentous occasion of his return to her.
